I would go with the freezer. Hot pockets, pizza rolls, and lots of fast, easy foods for you to make. You could find one with a smaller freezer to maximize your fridge space. Also, maybe ask your roomate for their opinion

Mine had a tiny freezer inside the fridge, I didn’t use it much. I kept some ice packs there just in case (though there was an ice machine close so they weren’t necessary) and I put food in there once or twice.

The school I went to provided a minifridge with a tiny freezer in the dorms, some kids brought a second one, but I don’t know of anybody with a dedicated freezer or even a fridge that has a dedicated freezer section to it, they all just had the little freezer inside the fridge compartment.

The kitchen in my dorm had a common fridge (full size with a separate fridge and freezer section) that some people used, although it got gross over time.

The one gifted to me for my birthday has a tiny freezer thingy in it. To be honest, I haven’t seen a compact fridge without a tiny freezer in it except for the really really small ones. I don’t know how often I’ll use the little freezer but when I do I plan on taking things out of their boxes. Imagine how many hot pockets you can fit that way.

I would suggest the freezer then, because you never know when you may need something cold fast or need that emergency ice pack.

My fridge had a separate, exterior door for the freezer… I picked it specifically for that, my boyfriend’s fridge had one of the freezers on the inside and his didn’t work, so I didn’t trust it.

I used my freezer way more than the fridge. I froze a lot of foods to help them keep longer… hot dogs, bagels, etc. Not to mention frozen pizzas. A pint of ice cream doesn’t hurt. And I agree about ice packs, it’s always good to have those handy.

Sure you can. Most mini-fridge have a freezer on the top. It might be very small, so you can’t really put too much in it. But you are allowed to, but you really won’t need it at all. Unless you like ice cream or have a microwave for cooking foods, a freezer is not needed.

I used my freezer all the time! Quick-easy meals are a must and a freezer helps with that (of course, then you need a microwave). Ice cream is great too and an ice pack helps if you pack a lunch because you don’t want to walk back to your dorm or don’t have money to eat out.
My friend had a suite-style dorm and share a full fridge/freezer with 5 other people. They bought a full floor freezer to keep in their dorm because they ate so much frozen food (not that healthy, but whatever).

Definitely! I used the freezer frequently. You’ll love it to store hot pockets, bagel bites, etc- all the amazing late night food you may end up depending on.

I turned my refrigerator on the lowest temperature possible in hopes of turning it into a freezer. I buy two loafs a bread at a time, so I wanted them to be frozen so they wouldn’t go bad (since it takes weeks for me to finish that). I did have a freezer at the top, but it was so small I couldn’t fit the bread in.

I think I killed my refrigerator doing that, though lol. It doesn’t freeze well anymore, but I don’t need it anymore.

I recommend getting one with a freezer. Just know that the space will most likely be very limited.

The ones with the non-separate freezer are junk. All of my friends and I had them when we were in college, and the freezer wasn’t cold enough to freeze ice cream. Pretty much all it did was make a massive amount of frost you had to drain out at the end of the year. Either of with a two-compartment unit or just get one that’s a refrigerator to keep drinks/leftovers cold.

I’ve got one with a separate freezer. I use it for a variety of foods. If you like microwave meals, ice cream, or anything else that typically goes in a freezer, I would recommend getting one with a separate freezer.
