My friend that I am rooming with this year wants a fridge. My roommate from last year had one, but I never really used it, so I wasn't really planning on getting one, but my new roommate used his fridge a lot last year. The problem is that the fridge he used was his roommate's. So, neither of us have a fridge, and it appears that the company the school recommended, collegiate concepts inc, is out of them, so we can't rent one from them. Are there any other companies that rent them?

I really would like to avoid buying one, because next year we plan on getting an apartment, but I guess if we really need to we will.

How much does it cost to rent a fridge? I am asking because I have heard that it is often cheaper to buy a new fridge than to rent one for a year. Walmart sells small fridges with freezer compartments for $125.

Didn’t know it was so cheap. Its $249 to rent a new one, and its $219 for a used one. if its $125 to buy a new one, then we will probably just do that.

Look at the fridges though and make sure you know what you’re getting. Ones without compressors (like a lot of the minis walmart is marketing toward college students) in some climates can’t even keep drinks cold.

You could always buy a lightly used one on Craigslist. I’ve seen some for 30-70 bucks. If you don’t want to get a used one, then just buy a new one and sell it on craigslist after. But I don’t see why you would care, because rentals are used anyway.
