His mom is freaking out that he will only make it to GT if he gets a 2200 on the SAT. What are his chances considering that he is an in-state student?
If he wants to go with an engineering major, what are some other schools he should be looking at based on how well his resume is? Thanks guys.

I'd say he's not going to get in, but not because his SATs are 2200--but rather because they aren't at least 2000, because he's not top 10% of his class (he's top 25%), and because his ECs seem to all be only done during the 12th grade.

Other top engineering programs that aren't as tough as Georgia Tech to get into would be:
Purdue, Rose-Hulman, UC Davis, Michigan, Penn State, Illinois, Carnegie Mellon, and Wisconsin.

P.S. Note I'm not saying he can get into all of these--I'm just saying that they are easier to get into than GT.

He can probably get into the first five of these and Wisconsin. He's Slight reach at Illinois and CMU in engineering. P.S. Michigan is the one he may or may not get into also.

I'm not sure if he's top 10% or not. He said 60/800--but then he said top 25%--so I don't know what's going on here--is he top 10% or is he not.

It does make a lot of difference in determining which schools he can get into.

Talk to everyone more later--it's finally "turkey-time" here on the west coast.

Michigan would be a reach school like Georgia Tech. The scores have been lowered because of the affirmative action lawsuits. They are trying to recruit and retain their minority students. An Asian male looking at Engineering is common.

He is 60th out of 800 students, but he wanted me to list him as top 25% because that's how college board did it? I don't know. But he is 60/800. To me, he seems like a good candidate because a lot of in-state students that are weaker than him get in. Another thing, he was an all-state chorus member, and he is very very good at singing - if this helps him any. THanks guys.
