<p>My friend needs help debating between UCLA and Stanford. Could people provide pros and cons and for both schools?</p>
<p>Please take into consideration that for her UCLA would cost 6k a year while Stanford would cost 20k a year. Thank you so much.</p>

<p>stanford. i personally think she'll be dumb if she doesn't take that offer. who cares about the costs, her future would make up for it.</p>

<p>Actually, if I had been accepted to Stanford it would have been a hard decision to make knowing what I know now about UCLA. Money was never an issue, but when I take everything into consideration I'm almost glad I was rejected.</p>

<p>i'm surprised so many of you jumped immediately for stanford. on the other thread, the posters were seeking more info first. it's also much harder to make the decision if financial situations kick in.</p>

<p>If you like to live in Nor Cal, I suggest Stanford...if you like SoCal, I suggest UCLA. Both are extremely good in almost every program you can think of. However, I LOVE STANFORD! It's my dream college...too bad I'm not extremely smart though :(</p>

<p>I am a UCLA lover but I agree with the majority here, she should go to Stanford. She should take loans for the extra amount and not burden her parents. Anyway she will be a winner both of them are great schools.</p>
<p>stanford's awesome but ridiculously conservative...both have beautiful campuses...and the student population at stanford while large is considerably smaller than ucla's..</p>

<p>Anyone who says Stanford without some sort of compelling reason that your friend will benefit from is just enamored by the Stanford mystique and name...don't be fooled. Stanford is good, maybe even slightly better than UCLA in some area..but 3-4x as good? Nope.</p>
<p>We're looking at UCLA being about an 8 and Stanford being about a 9. In other words, UCLA will open 100,000 doors for you and Stanford will open 112,500 doors. </p>
<p>The bigger difference will be location, which will correspond to lifestyle. Do you want to live in Palo-Alto or Westwood? Northern California or Southern California? San Francisco or LA? To me, these would weigh vastly more into the decision process when debating UCLA vs. Stanford than their academic reputations. Both have excellent reputations - that's that. Move on to the next parameter to consider.</p>
<p>I can agree with that school rep, since they are so clsoe shoud not be the primary deciding factor.</p>
<p>For me, it was location first, then money. I have lived in NorCal and SoCal..I prefer SoCal by far and plus its hard to ignore such a stellar education for a fraction of the price of Stanford.</p>
<p>I have never lived in SoCal. exilio or anyone for that matter, could you tell me some differences you know of between NorCal and SoCal? i really need to make my college decision soon and any info about atmosphere/environment would be great. thanks</p>

People bike a lot
Beach is about 40+min away
Good weather similar to SoCal, but more extremes in lows and highs</p>

Laid back
Weather is near perfect
Surf culture is great
Easy access to many beaches
Night life is good just about anywhere
Lots to do for shopping/clubbing/movies/chilling</p>
