Well i've decided to attend BU next year, and another kid from my school asked if i wanted to room with him. At first it seemed like a good idea because i like him, and i thought it would be good to have a roommate you know and like. But lately i've been thinking over the advice that collge is a fresh start, and rooming with someone you know takes away from that. I no longer think i want to room with my friend. the problem is that i already told him i would. I can easily take the request off my housing application, but i dont know how to tell my friend about changing my mind after seeming so excited by the idea at first. I'm debating just taking the request off my application without telling him, then acting surprised when we dont get put together. What should i do?

I had a friend who did this and it turned out okay in the end. Be the bigger person and save the friendship now by telling him the truth. I think if he's reasonable he'll see what you mean. And even if it stings a bit at first, you'll both benefit and in the end he'll appreciate your honesty. I can totally see myself doing the same thing by speaking too quickly though;)

thanks
Yea, i would feel a little scummy if i went behind his back about it. I'll just need to think about how to tell him. Its always been one of my weaker points - agreeing to things without thinking it through completely

Haha, totally me too. Do you think email is a good idea or should you be more personal? Depends on how close you are to him and how nervous you are...jeez I hate when I do stuff like that!

Seriously, you will save your friendship by not rooming together. Maybe you can both put warren towers/towers/west as your first priority? there's still thousands of kids to meet, but you might have the reassurance of someone you know.

There is a good chance he is having second thoughts as well, but doesn't know how to say it....blame your parents, that always works, but do tell him
