Deferred ED by the way.

good EC's is very vague.
to your opinion, it could be good but to an admissions officer it might be different.

what courseload?

3 APs and 1 honors this year.
Various honors and APs over the years.

Anyone on this? I was shocked he was deferred.

I say 50/50 chance...but who knows? hahah

Columbia: Slight Reach

Why would you be surprised he's deferred? He seems like a typical deferred applicant to me.

i'm not surprised he was deferred.
i know people with higher stats who were also deferred.

Doubt he'll get in - he's got no hook and uninteresting ECs + unless he does something to improve his chances in the RD round there is nothing to suggest the decision will be any different

because you can really tell he has "uninteresting EC's" from the phrase, "good EC's"

If the only listable thing is being cross country captain and I'm assuming that is his best EC - then yeah, they do not stand out by elite schools standards.
