Friends doing recommendations?

Can friends do recommendations? Not the main, teacher recs of course, but supplemental recommendations? If we did that, do you think they would take it into consideration or just blow it off and say that a friend's perspective is extremely biased?

I ask because I really think my friends know me well, and if they thought I wasn't ready for a college, they would say so. They wouldn't soften it up for me because I'm their friend. They obviously know me better than my teachers I think, even academically sometimes. Yeah they might not be grading my papers, but they've worked with me on school activities and sports, and know my attitude towards school and such.

I don't think so. What would the adcoms be thinking? "This person isn't mature enough to give an evenhanded view," "This person is biased," etc. But the important question is, what new information could they give?

yea, no friends allowed for recs i don't think.

IMO that would be like allowing a family member to write your letter, since they probably know more about a person's habits, interests, work ethic, etc, than even your friends since they've known you for 18 years.

No friends. No family.

^^ I remember having read about a mother who wrote a rec, and her son got in; they both believed her rec had a strong influence, but I dunno.

Some colleges ask for a peer rec, all others don't really want them I would guess. But if it can add something new to your application, go ahead!

Some schools ask for peer recomendations. But I would think long and hard about your friend's writing skills and what they can say about you before you ask them to write you a letter.

I know Dartmouth askes for peer recs.

^^Yeah some schools have request peer recommendations.
