Friends might want to come over to visit... parking?

A few of my friends are planning to come over to visit the next couple weeks, and I was wondering how does parking work? Also, does anyone know if they can park in the area next to Ortega and if they can basically park there for the weekend (Friday-Saturday), though I know it's not for free, of course. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

If you don’t feel like dealing with Transportation and Parking Services (they suck.), your friend can park his/her car in some random spot in IV. Most of it is full, but you’re bound to find a place somewhere (hope they don’t mind walking a bit). My friends and I have left our cars there for days without incident. Since your friend is only going to be here for a couple days, I’m sure it will be fine. Best part is that it’s free.

Otherwise, I’d probably cough up the $12 for the Night & Weekend permit ( to cover the weekend and Friday night) and then maybe even up to $8 more to cover the remainder of Friday. Like I said, TPS suck. I’ve been hit with citations before everyone agrees that they are merciless.

As for which parking lots your friend can park in, you should check the map on the TPS website. There are only certain lots visitors can park in, but I don’t think the Ortega lot is one of them. They have this thing where they don’t want visitors parking in convenient places. Anyways, I’d say the next best one is the parking lot right behind Santa Cruz Hall overlooking the cliffs (Lot 6).
