Can anyone provide more detail/personal experience in regards to the scholarship? Is the most important aspect for receiving it level of financial need, how rural the area in which you live is, academic achievement, or something else?
I am pretty curious because I couldn’t find much information on it online.
Thanks ahead of time for any responses!
This is a very new program (began in Fall 2013), so I’m not sure there will be many here with personal experience with the Fitch scholarship program.
For those interested, information is here: https://apps.carleton.edu/campus/sfs/prospective/fritch/
I have asked about the Fritch in the past- seems to be geared more toward middle income applicants (whose hometowns meet population criteria) since applicants with high need will get good FA. From what I understand it isn’t a big boost, it is a pretty small stipend. Might help with book expenses and other fees but isn’t exactly on par with merit aid that is available from schools known for their generosity (like St Olafs and Macalaster). I don’t know what they are looking for in the applicants that receive the reward but I do think it is geared toward the middle income if that helps.
I mean it’s $10k a year, but only for three years. While it’s not mind blowing it will certainly help those middle class folks who the financial aid office deems has enough money to pay a sizable chunk of the $63k total per year
I’d never heard of it. Great to know as I recommend Carleton to anyone who will listen! And it’s for four years, not three, as I read it.
Yeah, you’re right it’s four. I wasn’t paying attention and read this “The scholarship will continue for 3 subsequent years” without counting the first year.
