From a Current UCI Student

If you're debating between schools, I'm just saying- GO TO UCI. Its honestly one of the best schools and decisions you could ever make. I got into 7 of the 9 UC campuses my senior year, and it took me a long time to decide which one to go to, but I've never been happier.

Everyone finds their place here, school is hard (as it should be- this is college) but you get used to the course load and figure out the pace you should work at, there are many organizations you can join, and its a beautiful campus. Also, its notoriously known for being absolutely not a party school, but low-key - if you wanna party, you can party.

Congrats to those who got in! For those who are wait listed, you are not rejected, please APPEAL the waitlist, I got in from wait list and was received admission not too long after. And for those who were rejected, I'm sorry, but you too can APPEAL the rejection if you want.

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help. Its finals week, so I'm trying to find a way to procrastinate :)

That’s cool~ wanna get in so badly… But I’m still waiting … It’s been too long … Maybe I will get reject ??

how should i go about appealing? 3.57 uc gpa, 1980 SAT, upward trend in grades? Senior year i got a 4.33. Applied for comp engineering.

@victormao I believe that the chance of you getting in does get lower as each wave of acceptances/rejects go out unfortunately. However do not give up faith! If you have something they like, they will accept you or waitlist you. I hope you get in! Keep me updated :0

@wonlilaznboi (first of all you username made me lol :)) Did you already get rejected or waitlisted? Becuase for wait listing the appeal is already sent to you with you letter, it is sort of like a second application of why you would be a good candidate (again). If you got rejected, normally you have to prove a reason why they should reconsider. Show how you are a stronger candidate, possible write about a struggle in your life (if you had one). Go to this link: [Appeal Information](<a href=“Academic Resources | Office of Undergraduate Admissions | UCI”>Academic Resources | Office of Undergraduate Admissions | UCI)
and fill out the forms you need to and send it in. And best of luck to you! Keep me updated

I am deciding between UCSD and UCI but I am leaning toward UCSD because the dorms at UCI looked really small and crowded to me…I only visited Mesa though.

@Uchalpz1 Each dorm varies in size. There are some dorms, which are near the cafeteria, that are fairly small for 2 people, where as the others (near the basketball courts) are HUGE with only 2 people. I personally live in the smaller ones, and yes when I do go to my friends dorm near the basketball court, I definitely envy her. But once you get into a dorm you realize how little amount of room you actually need, especially in a place where all your gunna do in your dorm is sleep or watch movies. I promise you, you really don’t spend that much time in your dorm, besides to sleep. Regardless, you probably shouldn’t base your decision of your college on your dorms. You should choose the college you think you are best fit to and would love!

Wow! Really considering it!! but please tell me more! What makes this school more desirable to go to than let’s say UCSD, UCLA, or UCB?
(small rooms don’t bother me  )

@kiiwaii literally everything is more desirable. Its a huge school, so yes it means that there is some walking involved, but it is really beautiful, very clean. The area is is extremely safe, there are always police around just chillin. Everything that you will need is literally in walking distance, except for the big stores like Target or malls and such.

There is so much i love I decided I can’t write it all down. Do you have specific questions? shoot away :)

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to answer some questions we may have~
I have a tiny problem that I’ve been worrying about, so any help is appreciated.

I got accepted as a Psychology major into the School of Social Sciences (hence the Department of Cognitive Sciences), but after looking more closely at both majors in psychology UCI offers, I’d like to change to the School of Social Ecology (Department of Psychology and Social Behavior) to better suit my interests.

I looked on the help section for UCI, and this is what I found:

"April to May:
Admitted freshmen who have submitted a positive SIR may change to a non-restricted major; The following majors are restricted:

• Business Administration
• Dance
• Engineering – all majors
• Music or Music Performance
• Nursing Science"

“Freshmen:
Requests to change majors are reviewed for students who are admitted and intend to Register. Submit the request in writing via the Message Center (MsgCtr) between April 1st and May 31st. After May 31st, you submit your request at your scheduled orientation session during the summer to the Academic Unit in which the new major is offered.”

So my understanding is that, after I submit my SIR, I can request a change from a major in Psychology to Psychology and Social Behavior via email?

Also, this may not be the place to ask because it’s very specific, but is it actually possible to major in PSB and minor in psychology (or even major in both)? Because the thing is, my interests do delve primarily in humanistic psychology, but I also crave to learn about the biological and scientific part of psychology too. And looking at the PSB requirements, I feel like it’s a bit scant in that focus.
So, if possible, I’d actually like to do both. XDD

Nice thread, but UCI will be able to sell itself. No need to worry about that lol!

@kiiwaii

A more laid back environment. A much lower level of competition. And way more slackers leading to a much more forgiving curve. Also, you never have to worry about getting robbed walking around late at night/early in the morning.

wowza regardez en bas

I truthfully love to walk a lot, so that’s a plus. Do you know anything about the psychology faculty and program? I want to know about the atmosphere of the professors and especially the students. I read ( on CC xD ) that UCSD and UCLA are very competitive in the school, unlike UCI. i mean, it can be bad in terms of stress and maybe some bad feelings around, but they probably learn more and work harder in the long run? I’ve been quite a ‘slacker’ most of my life and I’ve been wanting to change that.

Honestly, I know there is A LOT of competition in the science classes here at UCI. Obviously, this is a research and science based school, we don’t even have a football team. But as far as I know, in all of my classes, it has not been that competitive, no one has tried to trick me into studying the wrong things for the final, or lie to me to gain a better grade. Psychology is one of the top 5 majors, as is psych and social behavior, many of my friends are in it and enjoy it. The professors vary. I have had one psych professor and was one of the chillest, most laid back professors ever. He did not make attendance necessary for his class or discussion, and the final was basically all on his power-points. The atmosphere in general for all of professors that I have had so far (7 in total now) are pretty nice, the all mostly genuinely care that your interested in the class and try to make you excited. The students are all very nice to each other, there are definitely A LOT of very quite, shy students though (which I am the total opposite, so I can’t relate). But there are also many outgoing people, so you will definitely find you place.

I’ve totally forgotten how cruel people can be! Do people really do that in the more competitive UCs? heard any stories? I’m quite timid and shy myself but after I get comfortable I’m… hahahha… very jiggly and giggly

Yes! My siblings both went to other UC campuses; one went to UC Berkeley and the other went to UCLA. They hated other students in their classes (that weren’t their friends obviously) because they were really conniving. Both of my siblings told me various stories of how they were conned. My sister decided to trade study guides with a girl in her class, and got sent a study guide with false information on it. My brother told me a story of how he was talking to some guy that had taken a test with a different time slot, so my brother asked him what the main ideas on the test were, so he could focus on those points when cramming. He told my brother COMPLETELY different information and the things he said had like one question on the test. People are crazily competitive!

Try to not be too shy when you go to college. Make the most out of it. Go out and make friends and do crazy things that you will never forget! :)

@moonstars do you know if they release notifications by major? because i havent seen too many engineering majors get accepted yet. and how do you know that the chance of acceptance decreases with each wave? just wondering. thanks!

@appleeye I dont know if they release by major, but I don’t remember them doing that last year. And my knowledge of the acceptance is just an educated guess. It makes sense to send out the college’s #1 picks and wait for a response. Then they see how much room they will have available once people start declining the offer, so then they sound out the acceptances to their #2 picks. With each wave, your chance of acceptance decreases. But thats just my thoughts! Sorry if I misled you with my own personal ideas!

oh well that does make sense haha. So then is it just a coincidence that i only know a few people that got accepted for engineering at UCI? or has a good amount of people actually been accepted already…?

Hi moonstars,
Thanks for starting this thread. Hopefully we aren’t taking too much time out of your finals studying
My son is accepted in the Biomedical Engineering program and am wondering if you have any information regarding the BME program. His acceptance page shows the BME program is under THe Henry Samueli School of Engineering, which I believe is also the engineering school for UCLA. So, I was wondering whether the campus is shared by UCI and UCLA engineering programs or are these two schools with the same name? Ay information you may have regarding the BME program will be helpful.
Thanks again and good luck with your finals!

Hey do you remember when Financial Aid gets posted?
