hey everyone, how are the dorms at UCI? which one would you say has the best social atmosphere?

@delete3x If you are planning on going home every weekend, then get the 100 block, that is meant for people who will be eating meals at home and not using commons as often. I personally have the unlimited, because I dont go home that often. People get around either by car, bicycle, but more commonly by shuttles/walking. UCI is awesome!!! You’re gunna love it just as much as I do!

@arxo12 definitely dorm at Mesa if you are more on the “social butterfly” side. Mesa is generally a tad louder and ore socially friendly than Middle Earth. See you in the fall!

@moonstars
It is very nice of you to help out other students, giving back to your school community. I hope most students at UCI are as nice as you.

My son is considering UCI as his top choice now above UC Berkeley, UC San Diego and a bunch others.

@BusyMei yeah, I love helping people out, and there are definitely other students that are even nicer than me! Congratulations to your son his many acceptances, those are very hard choices, but hopefully he picks the best one for him!

One more thing! Which teachers are a “must take” at UCI?

So if i get a dorm at say, middle earth, and i decide to pledge, what will happen to my dorm? Also, which sorority has the prettiest girls/ have the most fun? Do you think i’d be able to keep my grades up and be in a sorority at the same time?

What place is best for older transfer students? I heard on-campus housing is really expensive. Is there off-campus housing that is also close to the campus?

I am very anxious I have not heard from UCI engineering program. All my friends have been accepted to UC. I have not received a waitlist or rejection. Please help.

@lyndasue29 Don’t worry, there’s still time My friend hasn’t heard back yet either. I think they have till the end of April to get all the decisions out, so there’s still a couple more days left.

I still haven’t heard back either. They will give out results no later than April 30th!

Trying to decide whether to go with a double, triple or quad in Mesa Court.
Any advice?

@delete3x there are not any really MUST TAKE teachers. You find teacher you love and you try to stick with them, and same goes with TAs. If you make a connection with either teacher or TA, try to stay with them. The more exposure you have with them, the easier they are to talk to and the easier the class will get.

@arxo12 If you do pledge, which I hope you do because it is truly an amazing experience, nothing will happen to your dorm…? You will still live there for your freshman year, no matter if you live in mesa, middle, av, where ever. If you are thinking about living in the sorority house, there are many ways to live in it but I am pretty sure you can only live in it after you have been initiated (so after your first quarter in the sorority) and only if there is an open bedroom in the house.

Which sorority has the prettiest/funnest girls?: thats REALLY hard to explain without revealing which sorority I personally am in and without sounding rude or conceited. Plus, I like all of the sororities (Panhellenic LOVE!). If you want to learn more about people’s personal views on sororities I would go on this website: [University of California, Irvine - UCI - Greek Life - Sororities - GreekRank.com](University of California, Irvine - UCI - Sororities - Greekrank)
Although the posts are obviously biased towards each, some are actually quite truthful. but by all means don’t take what you read to heart… You will find which sorority you LOVE once you go through fall recruitment

As for the grades question, in all honesty, keeping up grades in college is hard. Keeping up grades in college AND joining a sorority is even harder. But if its something you WANT and LOVE to do, then you can do it. I struggled through my first quarter of freshman year, which is the same quarter I joined my sorority. My grades weren’t horrible, but they were disappointing to myself. So, I began to figure out how to study properly and my sorority, my sisters, and all of its resources helped me SOOO much! I was so proud of my improvements that I immediately texted my sister (who is also my academic chair in my sorority= she is in charge of everyone’s grades and school work) and explained to her how excited i was about my awesome grades on my midterms and finals.

If you have any other questions about sororities you can private message me or write more on this page!

@lyndasue29 sorry to reply so late to you! That must be so difficult for everyone to know about their colleges and for you to be waiting still! Just take a deep breath because you’re going to be okay! First of all, I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. To tell you the truth, I do find it odd that you have not received ANY feedback from admissions, no acceptance, wait-list or rejection, which is very odd so late in the game. If I were you, I would call admission to make sure they didn’t forget about you or send the letter to the wrong person!

Keep me updated!

@jerrycat DOUBLE 100% double. never a triple… EVER. thats too many people in one tiny room.

Two people is the perfect amount of:
- getting the experience of dorm life with a roommate
- having someone to talk to so your not too lonely

without the:
- single life- where you have a very hard making friends
- triple life- when you never have a chance to be by yourself or alone

Trust me. Double it!

I have a friend who is at irvine and he said its really difficult to get an a. Is this true? Also what’s the grading curve like?

@CaliSparkles13 Almost completing one year here at UCI, I can say that yes getting an A is difficult but doable. It really depends on your major, the class, type of professor. Since UCI is under a quarter system, it can be overwhelming during your first quarter here but definitely DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. Grading is solely on the professor teaching the course, some curve, while others do not. Either way, if you study everyday you will most likely be able to pull off an A in the course.

For non-science courses that can’t be true at all. Seriously, I’ve taken courses where I did no reading at all all and just put down some fancy words in the blue book at the end of the quarter…and received A+'s for my “work.” Always look up your professors on RateMyProf. beforehand. For science courses, there’s usually a very standard curve…14% of the class will get A+/A/A- and another 14% or so…will fail…everyone else falls between. Some professors will tell you that if you get an A on their final, you will get an A in the class regardless of what you’ve received on your midterms…but in those cases the finals are super difficult anyway lol. They just want to mess with you. Seriously though, you don’t need to study everyday…if you want an A at UCI, you can get it because of the nice curving most of the time…but don’t wait till the weekend before exams to study or else you’re screwed.

Im an incoming freshman at UCI and im planning on moving in to the dorms. which would you recommend, middle earth or mesa court?
