My application essay is very poignant.I think it will make them feel a pity for me.

my GPA is 4.0
i AM IN THE TOP 5% OF MY CLASS.

extracuriculars.
i have particpated in drug prevention clubs.
i am a redcross first aider.
i was class president in my junior yea.

hey. incidentally, i know an ethiopian friend at princeton. however, he grew up here and was a domestic applicant.
i concur with CDS, it's a bit of a reach. don't give up hope, maybe the poignant essay will work for you.

I agree with CDS. Your SATs are subpar, especially for International students. Keep in mind that, as an international student, you have to compete with all the insanely brilliant Asian applicants. Also, your ECs don't seem very strong at all (unless you left some amazing ones off). As an international, you don't qualify for URM status either. Things are not looking up for you.

Still keep bro, anything i possible. Stranger things have happened in the admission process. Anyone ever hear abt the UPS worker who got into Harvard Bus. School then wrote a book about his experience.

Everyone needs to be a little less derogatory. He asked for chances, not insults.

Now, as far as my opinion on your chances: I would say they are fairly slim. Admission for internationals is very intense, and while your stats would be marginal for a domestic applicant, they will most likely be too low for an international. However, I still encourage you to apply, provided it does not put your family into any kind of financial hardship. You never know what kind of results you may get :)

You said that your essays may make the adcoms pity you...Have you had any particular adversities throughout your life that you have overcome? If so, I would make sure to make these glaringly obvious in your application. They love to see applicants who have triumphed over hard circumstances =]

where did the insults come from? i thought we were referring to Ms. South Carolina? apparently you didnt get the joke and took my statement seriously. you may want to go check out that video on youtube. :)

Oh, I was not referring to you at all. If you are insulting Ms. South Carolina, please, be my guest. After watching the video, I can't help but think she has it coming to her (even if it was just a bad case of nerves).

I was referring to CDS's earlier post in which he called the OP's application "awful." By no means is anyone's application with a superscored 2090 SAT "awful," not to mention that calling anyone's application horrible is simply uncalled for.

wd90 thanks.
In my essay,I wrote about how I overcame challenges in my life.I believe my essay will help them look beyond my mediocre SAT scores.(I took them with minimal preparation.)

No problem.
If you are a good writer, I think that you will have a fair chance. It just depends on how they decide to view your situation.
Best of luck! =]

in your redcross first aider role you must have come across some touching
moments that tugged at your heart. if your essays were centered around
your feelings evoked by that moment and the subsequent desire to rise
above your current station to do something.....a lead in to how pton can help....
...hey maybe you stand a better chance than most from Ethiopia.

If Ethiopia is considered on par with other African nations or other
developing/impoverished nations in the world your chances of admittance
are much less healthier.

The fact is that your SAT I scores seen on a developed world country perspective
is way low. The question is, how does Pton treat a country like
Ethiopia and, what new perspectives you would bring to the class of 2012?

As one of my adult mentors likes to say all the time...
*** When the world says, "Give up," hope whispers, "Try it one more time."
***

Hang in there my friend and you might make it...

I think you have a very decent chance. Your experience of life in Ethiopia would be a unique contribution to the Princeton campus. Don't be discouraged by the posters who cannot even fathom the everyday challenges of your life. But do apply to other schools, too, as backup, and don't focus solely on the Ivies.

Thanks fauve. You make me feel better.I know my SATs are not amazing. But that does never mean i am less intelligent than people who score in the 2300s.SAT is just a silly test which responds to coaching and enough practice .I hope Princeton becomes less obsessed with SAT scores and look the challenges I overcame EVEN to apply to an American college.
