Would this be a positive or negative thing for admissions into top notch schools like the ivies. Cause I got an F in physics in 2months into the first term… but I was able to bring it up to an A in 3 months. Would having the F be a very bad thing? Cause it wasn’t really cause of poor work ethic… the stuff was just hard for me to comprehend…

you're not going to an ivy with an F, sorry, but that's the truth

whoa... you could go to an ivy school if you were just slacking off, but if you couldn't "comprehend" it, then that means your out of luck. Need a lot of juice in your brain.

the F and the A would average to a C

I honestly can't believe people post things like this.

It depends on your school system. At my school, if you get a 69 on the first nine weeks and then a 100 on the final and second semster then you would get a 89 and the schools wouldn't even know about the F. They would just see the B. But it depends on your school.

I am sure that the teacher was more than happy to see improvement in the grades however, looks like there's a little grade inflation going on.

Ok, he wouldn't make it to an ivy school either way. I was just being half nice.

A B wouldn't kill your chances, but I doubt that you could brign it up that much.

One question is if it shows up in your transcript at all. I know at my school only the semester grades show up. (1st Semester ends at the end of this month) and therefore nobody would know about the F.

I think if it does show up it would be a very bad thing if it affects your GPA and class rank.

If it was with in a term it doesn't show up, your final grades are the only things colleges sees, so it really wouldn't show them that you went from an F to an A.

I think that the facts that you learned material which was difficult for you, and overcame the obstacle of the comprehension problems you were having with it, and didn't just give up, are wonderful things which speak very highly of your character. You should be very proud. It's one thing to find that everything is easy and you can sail through all your courses. It's another to find one subject particularly challenging and then have the determination and ability to rise to that challenge. The first says something about brains; the second says something about both brains and character.

The F actually is not factored in my class rank or gpa... it was merely a progress report. My final mark is not averaged with the F. I forgot to mention that I am an international and we do things a bit differently I guess. The A is the most current mark I have for that course. And I don't really think our school has grade inflation cause my term report consisted of 50% of the term work and 50% exam. I was able to get perfect on my exam and perfect on 8 out of 10 labs and tests during the term.

...maybe you should have mentioned that before...and why would you ask about the F if you know that it's not part of your average...

Because its on my report card.

Why would a "mere progress report" be on your report card?

It just is. A big fat F. And I dunno how my school sends my transcript over but if it shows that F would that seriously hurt my chances?

I don't think it shows on the final transcript if it's just a progress report
but yeah, if it does, it's really unlikely that you'll get into an ivy

Like I said before, stop worrying about it. You won't get in anyways.

lol this guy's meaner than me ^^^^
