Hi there,
this is my first post so I’ll try to be as descriptive as possible.
Right now, this is my first year at a CC and I plan to transfer to a decent Uni(not necessarily the top universities, but close to it)
However, I’m having trouble finding some decent schools that match some of my needs.
My high school grades were good until I transferred my senior year and I failed my AP Bio and college algebra class. My ACT scores are as high either (24 ). However I did have some leadership roles (swim team captain, parliamentarian), some volunteering experience, had a job, and joined clubs.
I’m looking for a school that is preferably out of state (I don’t mind in state but I would rather go out of state), decent financial aid, and has a good economics/digital media program.
The schools I’m looking into are :
-University Of Wisconsin Madison
- University of Minnesota Twin Cities
-UIUC
Are these schools good ? What other schools are worth looking into?
Usually mutually exclusive, if we’re talking public U’s. Publics want to educate their own state’s students.
@bodangles Ah… so would private schools be a better option?
Depends. You’ll have to investigate whether they give good aid (merit or need-based) to transfers or at all.
You probably have plenty of good options in your own state, as a starting point. My public school’s cost doubles for OOS students, but I’m going here for less than 10k a year (until they hike tuition again).
@bodangles I’ll definitely look into that.
Would not having really any ECs around school (I’m planning on getting a job and volunteering/leadership roles in my area) affect my chances of transferring? I don’t think I’ll be able to be involved around school campus that much since my mom drives me to school(I’m only allowed to go to school on Mon, Wens, and Fri) and I don’t have a car. I was wondering if having outside ECs would be better than having no Ecs around school?
I’m a physics/math double major at UIUC. It’s an amazing school. The academics here are excellent. I’m not personally familiar with the economics department here, but it does have a great reputation. The school in general is great. The campus is very vibrant and has a wonderful atmosphere.
