From College to Wharton

Hey guys. I am an incoming freshman.

It may sound stupid, but I am an international student who did not know about Wharton when I first applied. I want to major in Econ and that I explored Upenn I want to study at Wharton.

So how hard is it to transfer from College to Wharton? Is it gonna be hard? What classes do you recommend me to take?

Also if I study one year at College will I be left behind of everything? Will that be my disadvantage when I transfer to Wharton?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Well, the Econ department is in CAS.

If you are sure you would like to apply to transfer to Wharton, here is the link. http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/transfer-admission

Yes, it is difficult. You will need good grades, solid ECs and a good essay about why you want to transfer. It is all explained on the link.

There are a ton of kids who try to transfer from the College into Wharton for a variety of reasons, so the sheer number of applicants makes it tough to get in. Try not to focus your entire freshman year on getting into Wharton, or that could hold you back from exploring other things as well. However, it is necessary to take the required courses (MATH 104, ECON 001, ECON 002) and it wouldn’t hurt to try out a Wharton class to see if it is really the right fit. From what I’ve heard you need closer to a 3.8 or 3.9 to be a strong candidate, but lower still have a chance so don’t let it psych you out. If you get in, you will not be at a disadvantage, since lot of Wharton kids get general requirements out of the way in their freshman year, and a lot of those general requirements are just College classes.
