I'm going to Cal Poly but i want to switch schools. As a result im going to CC next year to attempt to attend UCI or UCD. Going back to CCC, will i keep the credits that i completed in cal poly? and finish the credits i need at CCC? or will i have to start over fresh? how do i carry on these credits if possible?

Meet with a counselor at the CC and see how many of your units from Cal Poly will carry over to your general ed (is it IEGTC?) requirements. They will tell you exactly what transfers over and what you still need to take. If you took general ed type classes, they will carry over.

Talk to a counselor like everyone else already recommended.

most of the classes u took at csu’s are probably only csu transferable, why waste your time going back to a CC? just get ur Bachelors at csup

^ Bad advice from Ryan but I’m sure you know that. You will keep most your credits and work towards IGETC. If you obtain most of your credits from your CC then you will be given CC priority. If most of your credits are from a CSU then you will be considered a CSU student even if you last attended a CC. CSU’s have last priority, CC’s have first. But you will not have to start over regardless and CC will probably give you a chance to boost your GPA if you take it seriously. Good luck to you!

I’ve decided that i’m sure i want to transfer out. My nearly finished brother with undergrad who is in UCSC says i could still make it possible at this point with school starting up on 1/4/10. He’s saying i could get a refund maybe on the dining / living / school… aka tuition that i payed for winter quarter, then make sure i have an account made on the community college website so i can register and try to get in to get hte classes i want. It seems like a stretch but to you professionals, does that still sound possible to you as well? I have teh choice between a quarter and semester system Community College School, so i take it semester system school would work out more. right? it starts mid january.

“most of the classes u took at csu’s are probably only csu transferable, why waste your time going back to a CC?”

Ryan is talking out of his ass. I went to a CSU for 1 year and didn’t like it, so I went to a JC and then applied to the UCs last year and got accepted to all of them. I decided not to go because Im switching my major, but all the classes I took at the CSU transferred and I was still given top priority because a majority of my units were taken at a CCC.

To be considered a ccc student you have to attend your last semesters at ccc. Doesn’t matter about the units.

I dont understand a few things. I JUST sent an e-mail to the CAL POLY office of admissions saying i need the steps to transfer out of cal poly… and i went to the admissions site for the juniro college i want to go to. Would i try registering and applying as high school graduate? because there’s not a selection for CSU transfer students. hahaha. Can someone briefly explain teh steps they took if they’re in the same case as me? or if they just plain old know th steps? please explain :)

BUMP. asdf

If you want the most help link us to the admissions site, because you’re making everything more complicated than it needs to be.

Admissions for community colleges is not like admissions for cal states, ucs or privates. you don’t apply months in advance and wait to hear if you get in or not. You are automatically in the minute you submit your application. so putting that you’re a high school graduate or what have you makes no difference. READ THE QUESTION they ask you on the application, are you a high school graduate or a transfer. Transfer usually means ANY or ALL colleges, whether its another CC, CSU, UC, Harvard YAle Princeton ETC. Usually when they ask this is to know if you are at least eligible to enroll in classes. Eligibility at all or most community colleges is dependant on your age 18 or having graduated high school. That’s all they want to know, if you are under 18, that usually tells the community colelge that you need parental approval to take classes at a CC, or your high school guidance counselor.

Once you register or enroll and they have all your personal information(ie date of birth, address, name, social, etc) then you can go to your community college’s counselors and have them go over your CSU transcripts. THEY will tell you what will count from CSU and what wont. And if they’re good or are actually doing their job, they’ll also help you pick out your classes for the upcoming semester/quarter(taking into consideration your csu work, or not) based on your plans(transferring to UC, or if you just want career training, an associates, etc).

Your steps:
REGISTER or FILL OUT YOUR ADMISSIONS APPLICATION(if you don’t know how to fill out an application, go in person, they’ll ahve people there to answer your questions)
ENROLL for classes based on the IGETC general education plan. If you need assistance(this is where you meet with your guidance counselor and bring in your csu transcripts).
After you enroll in classes, pay your fees.(or do BOG fee waiver or fafsa the way you did for Cal Poly)
GO to class.
its easy as that.

Lastly, I don’t think any school has steps in “transfering out”. It’s simply called not-enrolling in classes or for a semester or year, or never again.

liek0806 is correct. When I left the CSU I was attending my freshman year, I simply ceased attending the school. There is no process to disenrolling, you just stop going.

As far as JC goes i’ve enrolled submitted application, signed up for classes, i need to pay them and really talk to a councellor about AP scores senior year that i had cancelled, ummm placement tests for math and english, which i took at CSU. and courses i took at CSU that may be transferrable to JC.

As far as leaving the CSU, im calling 10,000 different numbers and doing hella different steps to get refunds, official checkouts, etc. it’s complicated!

hopefully i can get this all done in 3 days when school starts… Haha

Hey I don’t know if you still check this, but were you able to get a refund? because I am thinking of doing the same thing. (Leaving Cal Poly and going to CC)
