AA is not far at all from Metro Airport. Just take West bound I-94 to State Street.

You could take a shuttle (20 bucks or so.)

Too bad it doesn't have an airport? Detroit Metro Airport is a measly 35 miles away!

Prices vary--Metro Cars are like $50, cabs are cheaper. If you take a shuttle to a common destination like a hotel of Michigan Union, it's cheaper than door-to-door. Train's no good because the station you'd need is in Pontiac and by the time you get yourself up there, you could have already been in Ann Arbor, heh.

Actually Hoedown, Detroit Metro Airport is more like 25 miles away from Ann Arbor...a mere 25 minutes...tops. It is exactly halfway between Detroit and Ann Arbor.

There's a shuttle that runs between metro and the union a few times a day. Free for students like 10 bucks for everyone else.

When I travel back and forth from the Airport to A2 I take Custom Transit ($40 roundtrip or $22 one way) they are really reliable and can be reached @ 734-971-5555. Give them a cal... If you have anymore travelling questions I may be able to answer them.

how long does it take by cab from airport to inside umich? do u get stuck in rush hour around 8-9AM ? gotta know for my travel plans ..want to visit the last week of april...

Maybe traffic has changed since your last visit--it's rare for us to make it to the airport in 25 minutes, and I live about 90 seconds from the interstate.

I last made the Ann Arbor to Detroit Metro trip 6 months ago (I went to the Michigan vs Northwestern game in November). It took me under 20 minutes. I drive around 80 MPH and there was no traffic. IT is a 25 mile drive, so if you average 60 miles an hour, you make the trip in 25 minutes. With traffic, it takes about 40-45 minutes. Without traffic, it takes 20-25 minutes. Hoedown, I have a feeling you are a very safe driver! LOL

Alexandre: Next time you come, let us know and I'll notify the police. Especially if you're trying to make it from AA to Somerset in 40 min.

And Hoedown: thanks for being a safe driver on those roads my kids use often. I appreciate it.

I will be in the vicinity for the Notre Dame game...in September. And I am a safe driver. I drive a beige Volvo for crying out loud! LOL Seriously, I never drive over 80 on a highway. In Michigan, that's pretty standard.

Thanks for the warning. I'll make sure to avoid the roads that day. I've lived in Michigan for over 40 years, and 80 mph is most definitely not standard. Thank goodness. Especially on roads approaching AA on game day.

I guess we have different perceptions. I was under the impression that the speed limit in Michigan was 70 MPH and traffic on I-94 generally moves between 70-80 MPH at non-rush hour times. Anyway, according to Yahoo! maps, the distance from DTW to downtown Ann Arbor is 23 miles and takes 29 minutes...and Yahoo! maps is known for very conservative time estimates. It usually takes 25 minutes, travelling safely. I generally stick to the middle lane (I hate shifting lanes and rarely do) and it never takes me more than 25 minutes unless there is construction or traffic.

I live in Michigan, and I was under that impression, too. shrugs

That's definitely true on I-96, especially between Lansing and Detroit. I-696 would like to be, but face it its often too busy to accommodate that sort of speed.

Parts of I-94 run pretty fast, too, but I am on I-94 every single weekday, during rush hour, and I can tell you that 80 around/through Ann Arbor isn't the norm. 70 is more like it.

I'm a conservative driver, my husband less so, but then we often have my son in the backseat. I've never been on an airport trip where 6 minutes was going to make the difference, or not worth what I perceive to be a greater risk than I wish to take. Hence, I don't go 80 to the airport.

I hear you Hoedown. I used to work at Ford's headquarters in Dearborn and live in Ann Arbor (on the Saline Road exit). The commute could be a pain come rush hour time. Lucky for me I used to leave home at 6:30 AM and return from work after 7:00, so I did not have to deal with rush hour!

Yeah I'd say 80 mph is the average on most MI highways (when you get away from a city). I have people criticize me for going over 80 on the highway but then they'll never stay close to a 25 residential speed limit where kids are running around...

detroit is the trashiest city in this country so therefore you should expect bad driving

I'm from Flint and I take offense to that; we're 10x as trashy as Detroit. As the saying goes: If Detroit is the ugly butt of the United States, Flint is 60 miles up it.
