From Germany To ... HYP?

Dear CCers,

yes, it is yet another "What Are My Chances?". I'm sure y'all are just as excited as I am, aren't you ? ;)
Given the fact that I am from Germany and seem to be the only one from my area to apply to an US University, I don't really have anyone who's able (or willing :)) to evaluate my chances.
But I figured that there's no better place to have your chances evaluated than CollegeConfidential.com - so here I am - eager to hear your thoughts on my chances of being accepted!

For your information I was thinking of applying to:
Harvard (EA/ED)
Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Brown, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Boston University, International University Bremen ... uh - can't think of more right now.

Yes, I am aware of the fact that I am aiming for "top-notch" schools, but should I not be accepted, I'd simply stay in Germany and study there (there are some decent universities round here too! :))

Happy evaluating! ;)

SeeYa Thomas :D

Its people like you who make me want to crawl into a hole and die after reading their stats... let alone apply to HYP

You have an above average chance of getting into HYP, but since it's always a crapshoot, you never know...

I'd say the play is your best attribute, but I think "The Virgin Suicides" was a movie in the US.

Please be aware that you will review for the first 2,3 years subject matters you already learned at your German "high-school".

My suggestion is, transfer to an US university as graduate student.

Derek, yep it actually is a movie. But that movie is based on a book, which I can only recommend!

My play, however, only has little to do with said movie.

I simply translated the german title of my play into english, and "The Virigin Suicides" is what came out! :D

Anyways, your answers are all appreciated, please keep them coming!

Does anyone have any numbers on how many germans annually apply to the Ivies? I always wondered about that!

Thank you!

DUde, don't post here....you're in. You should probably write some play about a German kid at Harvard, Princeton, or Yale...or seomthing like that

I'll take that into consideration, sr6622! :D

Any suggestions for the leading role?

Damn......what I'd really like to see is a "normal" person applying to Harvard and getting in.

Yes twking, you have a great chance.

Listen dude you have excellent chances, no hay duda or no doubt about that. But you're an international, and aren't acception rates for internationals low or isn't it harder to get in if you're an international? I read that somewhere, I'm not 100% sure. Or maybe if you can't pay full tuition it's harder to get into HYP?

Since I'm an International I have no idea, sarorah.

Anyone knowledgeable enough to clear things up?

Oh and as for Harvard EA/ED...

Do you think that applying ED to Harvard is going to increase my chances a lot? I've not yet fully grasped the advantages of applying ED, I'm afraid ;)

Twking, you seem to have all the stuff to be a candidate for top schools admisssions. You certainly should give it a try. Harvard does not have ED, but something called single choice early action, as Yale does. Princeton has single choice early decision where you are bound by the decision. You need to read the rules pertaining to internationals very carefully, as some schools do not have an early option available for foreign students. I do not do any work with internationals so I have no idea if any of your schools fall into that category. As for financial aid or need, some of the schools on your list are need blind for internationals, and some are not. In order to get a student visa, you need to show that you can pay your way.

The stats indicate that chances are greater for early kids at HPY and the other schools on your list, but it is a matter of dispute as to the reason. Some say it is because the quality of early applicants is higher. My opinion is that it is an advantage to apply early if your stats are in sterling shape. Just psychologically more difficult to accept someone as the seats are filled up. But that is just my personal opinion. I know a number of kids who were accepted RD to Harvard who were deferred or rejected early to another top school.
