From gloom to utopia? any help appreciated!

Hi, I'm currently second year student in University of British Columbia in Canada planning to transfer to UCLA or berkeley. I'm fed up with this "unlively" environment here. I understand that my chances are very low but here is the situation.

My GPA is 3.5-3.6 and I'm currently in the honours Astronomy and Physics program . I have several EC including service related and sports related.
I took the International Baccalaureate program in highschool (which I didn't do too good in) but my highschool GPA was around 3.8. I have lived in several countries and i have been living by my self since I was 15.

Is there absolutely any chance....say 0.01% of getting in?

And also, If there is, are transfer students from foreign countries suppose to take SAT's and what not? And I also don't understand that "fulfilling the faculty of letters and science" requirement about English?

Any help will be appreciated!

Do you plan to apply to L&S? What major will you be applying? My guess is Physics/Astronomy/Astrophysics. Will you apply as an international student? Honor physics and astronomy sound good, and I assume you do well in these honor classes. Definitely you have more than 0.01% of getting in. I would say at least 50%. Your GPA is neither high nor low, so you still have good chance. If you apply as international student, you need not to take the SATs. Since you’re transferring from another university, I would say the high school grade and your IB score doesn’t really matter anymore. Your college grade is the main factor. How are you doing in your classes this semester? I think if you can boost up your GPA to 3.75 after the fall, you will have a better shot of getting in.

Humm,by no strech of the imigination do you have a 50% chance of getting into cal osc (out of country) I would say, you have about a 10-15% shot if you write good essays and stress EC’s

Well of course you have a shot. Berkeley last year offered admission to about 19 percent of the international students who applied; UCLA was more generous: about 38 percent. I would encourage you to elaborate on the reasons for leaving your current university, the “unlively” environment and such, on the personal statement.

Hey, thanks to all who replied!

Passionate > Thanks for your confidence boost. I’m doing alright this term. I hope I can boost my GPA to a good range, but till the marks are up, anything can happen right? agh.

MORECOWBELL!!> Even those numbers seem way higher than what I thought. Although I do have EC’s, i’m not too sure how much other people do so I have no idea if it will act as a plus or minus.

CoCoCrisp08> Yup, saw those numbers, but I was guessing that those guys who applied were all in the GPA 3.8+ range, which is why I thought I had no chance.
For sure I will emphasize the lack of liveliness in my essay!

I think I will just go ahead with applying?

best of luck  id send an app to ucsd also
