From Ivy to the Top: Chances and Advice

Hello all-

I am currently a freshman at a 'good' school, an Ivy or an equivalent. I don't want to give away any personal identifiable information, so I will have to be vague in some parts. I will say that I am at one of these schools: (Cornell, Duke, Dartmouth, UChicago).

I haven't really liked my current school much. I am looking at applying to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, UPenn, Columbia, and Brown, though this list is quite tentative.

My reason for applying will be my current school lacks an EC that is absolutely crucial to me. I think this will be a very good reason that the colleges will respect, especially in addition to some of the other problems I have will my college.

My high school stats were as follows:

3.9 unweighted GPA, unranked (but near top)

800 M, 780 V, 780 W. SAT IIs: 800, 800, 770

ECs: captain of two sports, editor in chief of newspaper, vp of class, and some other stuff. One fantastic rec, one good one.

My college resume hasn't yet been fully formed yet. My GPA will be high, hopefully around 3.8. I hope to have some very good ECs too.

What do you think I should do to better my chances, and how do you think my chances are at this point?

Your chances are excellent and you should just work on your essays. People like you are typically the ones that get accepted as transfer students.

HOw did it come to be that your school doesn't have the crucial EC?

Which school are you at?

jmmom- PM sent

bs2- I would rather not say (that is why I gave the series of schools, so I could show the caliber with the specifics). However, if it is very important for you, for whatever reason, maybe we could do PMs or something.

your extremely annoying and paranoid..

btw i know your at cornell....dont bother with the mysterious bs

lolpwned10char

I'm sorry if you find me annoying. I just have heard bad things about people being tracked online and stuff, and would rather remain anonymous. I'm not paranoid, I just felt that if I identified a school and activities I do, and my resume, people could pinpoint me easily.

I will say then that I do not go to Cornell. This 1) shows that I am not as paranoid as you think, and I will reveal some stuff and 2) your guess was wrong.

Cornell is too big to be missing any type of EC.

To the OP ... did you miss this little aspect when looking to choose a college? This EC seems to be of critical importance, how can you pick a college without knowing it wasn't there?

This is a passion that recently developed. It is impossible to actually start this at my college, given that it isn't a minor club, but a big program that needs real professionals and outside involvement, impossible for a student to spearhead.

It's Duke- Cornell and Darthmouth are Ivies and you said "ivy-equivalent," i.e., not an ivy-per-se. UChicago seems tossed on there at the end... choice D is hardly ever the answer in tricky questions... it'd be too obvious.

you 100 percent go to UChicago

I can't keep on giving answers to people's guesses. Sorry. And this isn't really supposed to be guess which school I go to but rather help me get into a school I really want to be at by giving advice and chances.......

lolpwnedback

well, the OP's thread says "from ivy to the top" so i assume hes already at an IVY meaning its either cornell or dartmouth. And since he said its not cornell, then its dartmouth. Mystery solved :)

lol ya mojojojo this foo loibviously either goes to cornell or darthmouth..that wasn't a very smooth title haha and

yeah it is annoying when people ask for help but try to be as unspecific as possible

No, read my first post. It says "Ivy or an equivalent."

I'm trying to give as much information that will be helpful and useful, without giving away anything that will allow lurkers to find out who I am.

wait, so why would a lurker want to know who u are? what could they do with that info??

1) if they know me, humilate me for ditching this school

2) If they don't, track me down and potentially cause me harm.
