from Notre Dame to grad school.....

well i was accepted by notre dame today, and really excited as its the top school to admit me thus far. i have yale, dartmouth, brown, and williams to go. i know all of those schools are great as far as grad placement within the ivies and other top schools, but i'm wondering how notre dame compares. will i have any more trouble getting into a top grad school going to notre dame instead of one of the others?

graduate school depends on how you do in the school, not where you go to school.

applesauce, where you complete your undergraduate studies matters to graduate schools, but how you do at the undergraduate level matters more. Not that it matters in this case. Notre Dame is tops as far as graduate school adcoms are concidered. Do well at Notre Dame and the sky is the limit.

Well, yes, it matters where you go to an extent. I guess I was referring to the case of OP, who is considering all top colleges, so the difference is little-to-none.

thanks for the input!

if anyone has any differing opinions or anything to add dont hold back..

My S went through the same thought process last year. He chose ND and I can say, o/s of the weather, he has never had a second thought. The poster who said ND is tops in reputation for grad school placement was right. If you do research or ask around, you'll find there's something about ND that gets a certain type of respect from almost everyone.

He chose ND over ivies because he didn't want the competitive vibe he said he felt at the other schools.-His feeling, not ours.

On the down side, ND is expensive, pretty white bread and in South Bend. Somehow, though, that doesn't phase most of the kids as it is an amazing place with a huge student participation and tons to do. If you haven't done so, check it out with an overnight and visit admission and ask for graduate school placement stats.
Good luck!

thanks bus.

while i am contemplating this decision already, i can only hope i'll find result requiring a conclusion on monday... however if that goes as i am expecting, it may be an easy choice

34% of Notre Dame graduates go on to professional or graduate schools immediately upon graduation. I think that this is slightly above average even for top schools, but someone can correct me if I'm
wrong.
