Hey guys. I don't mean to be an attention wh*re but I wanted to tell you guys something really important.

I was just deferred from Harvard.

I'd been thinking about what would happen when I opened that email for MONTHS. Let me tell you guys something, it's not as scary as we think it is.

It's ok if we don't get in places - it just wasn't "meant to be." There are, truly, so many great colleges that we will be accepted to. A really big part of this process is just understanding that we'll end up where we end up. We've done all this work so far, and now, more than ever, you all have to understand that your life is not summed up in an admissions decision.

Life will go on. And it will be pretty damn good.

As some of you know my applying to Harvard was a mistake, I would have rather done Stanford SCEA. Just because I don't like Harvard doesn't mean this post is meaningless. I really mean it - if I get rejected from Stanford, Brown, Columbia, Wesleyan, all my actual dream schools, life is still alright! I've got a great safety and you should have one too.

I guess I am starting to ramble. I just really wish I could convey my calmness to you guys. If you load up that page tomorrow and it's something you don't want to see - please, just take a deep breath and try to remember what I said. It's ok. Life will go on, and it will be what you make of it, WHEREVER you are.

Please don't freak out tomorrow (a lot).
Shaina

The #2 girl at my ultra-competitive IB school is in the same boat as you. If there is ANY one person at my school who deserves it, it was her....

if i end up getting rejected tomorrow i should be quite sad for a while, but i'll just move on...with the rest of the 50% of rejected Stanford hopefuls.

Thanks for that. For months or even years for some people have been dreaming about tomorrow and getting that acceptance letter but its nice to know that even if that letter never comes life isn't over.

I'll most definately be sad because like you said Harvard you almost expect it the minute you apply but your real dream school will hurt. But I'll move on and hopefully go to a good school none the less. And most likely everyone else will too if not a better one than Stanford.

yo to all you people who are afraid of decisions, don't be too worried about them. I was deferred exactly a year ago by Stanford, and found that initially it is hard to get over. However, you realize that there will eventually be TONS of schools that will want you. I was eventually rejected by Stanford but i'm at Harvard now. So, don't stress. Its all good.

that's hopeful. I wouldn't mind if something similar happened to me XDXD. I'll be happy at any one of my top 4 and maybe even at some other school :)!

Oh man, SCEA has a 50% reject rate? That may be preferable to the way Harvard does it. I was deferred along with 73% of the applicants (21% were accepted. Yes, that leaves 6% rejected, they only reject the absolute worst).
