Hi, Ive been really, really, stressed in the past few days but I’ve come over it. But I’m not sure if I made a mistake or not, so I would greatly appreciate some feedback. Today, I dropped from Precalculus Honors to Precalc college prep. I loved the teacher for Precalc Honors and he would actually teach. He cares about his students and wants them to suceed, and I learned alot in the past 3 weeks (he even called me on my phone if i needed help). However, on the first test I got a 78, and the homework brang me up to a 81, and that was supposed to be one of the easiest test. So today I switch out of honors, and the Precalc CP (college prep) the teacher is horrible. He does not explain anything, and you dont really learn, but his tests are very easy. I am very conflicted because I’ve always wanted to learn math and be good at it, but I’m scared of getting a C in the honors class. I made stupid mistakes on the first test and could have gotten a B and am starting to regret my decision. However, I know that if I do go back to the honors class, I might get a C (probably will get B?) because the test are so hard, but in our school honors is weighted as 5.0, so I would end up getting a 3.0. I really do not know what to do. PLEASE help me.
In my opinion, if it possible to switch back to Honors Pre-Cal, I would do so. Colleges would like to see you struggle in harder classes than to see you accelerate in easy classes.
when in doubt, go with the better teacher.
it’s not that big of a deal if you’re not taking honors precalc, IF you already have a rigorous schedule. Precalc is the only non-honors class I’m taking, and that’s primarily because I lack an affinity for math. if you’re feeling stressed about it and think you’ll make a C, or even a B- in honors, i’d advise to stay in regular and get an easy A—4.0 is better than 3.0, no matter how you look at it. It’s okay to have one regular class, esp if it’s precalc. It won’t kill you.
But if you’re aiming for a top tier uni that changes everything. I’d say evaluate your goals, look at where you want to go forward, juggle your options in terms of time and stress management, and if you feel like you can do it.
I just switched from honors pre calc to regular a few weeks ago! I was kinda in the same spot. The regular pre calc teacher is a bit dumb for a lack of a better term, but it’s really chill and pretty stress free. Also the rest of the kids in my regular class seem to get lower grades in general and so things get curved quit a bit. Honestly it’s much nicer to not be struggling to get a C+ in honors when I’m not doing much and getting an A in regular. I’m not saying taking honors is bad but if you have a hard enough schedule you will be fine!
