From the UK-private loans?

Hey everyone,

I am reaaaaaly eager to go and study my undergrad in the USA, but finance is a pretty big problem for me. I am not poor enough to qualify for a large financial aid, but not rich enough for my parents to pay for the fees.

I came across many websites offering loans specifically for international students going to study in the US and they seem pretty decent.(some are advertised on the MIT website as a means of finacne for internationals) All they require is that u have a US citizen co sign the loan. Luckily, i happen to have some cousins who would sign.

Obviously there will be an interest rate and i will be in massive debt after graduation, but you are given around 20 years to pay back this loan, and only start paying it back 6 months after graduation. Some of these websites are offering very large sums of money available for the loan as well, but ive just got a couple of questions:

1) Most websites are saying that they will loan you around 20,000 pounds....is this enough for fees/living costs at uni's like Duke, Brown, CalTech etc? My parents will give me around 4 grand i reckon, and i can also use some money that i earn in my gap year.

2) Is it worth it? The massive debt of around 80,000 i will end up with is kind of ridiculous, but is it worth the sacrifice so i can have the once in a life time experience? is it even possible?

3) Can i get a job while im out there or will i require a work visa?

Am i living in a dream world, or is it actually possible? Realistically the chances of me getting a scholarship are slim, so this is my only shot. Here are just a few examples:

Thanks a lot

80,000 UK Pounds? Great God, don't do it. Consider the compound interest you will pay even if you only take ten years to pay it back. Stay in the UK, do your undergraduate degree there, then go to graduate school in the US- there are more scholarships at that stage.
