Did anyone participate in the Frontiers summer program? Is it taught by WPI professors? Assuming a participant performs favorably, is this helpful to admission prospects?

It probably doesn’t help with admissions.

Only in as much as it shows you are a dedicated student, just as participation in any number of summer programs would

S did Frontiers the summer between junior & senior year in HS. He is now a freshman at WPI. I believe he would have been admitted to WPI without having attended Frontiers, but it certainly didn’t hurt. It did let him become familiar with the campus, and several professors and Admissions staff. I believe most, if not all, the programs are taught by WPI professors. He worked hard and had a great time.

Frontiers is a cash cow for WPI to develop capital since the program doesn’t give out financial aid (quoted from here: [Ranking - WPI](http://www.wpi.edu/offices/president/ranking.html)). It probably doesn’t hurt your chances to do the program but be sure to balance the high costs and the potential benefits. It probably doesn’t help too much with admissions and I would not do it. If you want to do a summer program that will help you in college applications, there are many more selective summer programs such as summer research programs whcih can probably help you get huge scholarships from WPI and maybe even get admitted into Harvard or Princeton.

Frontiers is taught by all WPI faculty and it is a great way to get introduced to life at WPI! It is a residential program and it certainly does show us in the admissions office a high level of interest in the school. Applications for this summer will be available later in the winter.

Just bumping this back up. My son is interested in doing the Frontiers program and the cost, while high, is not as bad as others with the same focus. I was hoping son could do one at Drexel since it’s close and also a potential college but the cost is $4,500 - a longer program but that’s sooo expensive! I like the idea of a 10 day program at half the cost.
