frost audition this weekend

Leaving tomorrow for Frost School of Music audition and staying at the holiday inn. Does anyone know how long it would take to walk from the hotel to the concert hall? I'm not sure if crossing the highway on foot is doable.

I was wondering the same thing, so I checked it out on Google Maps and it will take almost half an hour. Here’s the link to the map info [Holiday Inn Coral Gables - University to University of Miami - Google Maps](Google Maps). I wonder though if there is a shortcut through the campus rather than going all the way around. I just don’t know what the highway situation is around there.

We go next week for my D’s audition on Feb 1st. I believe that you can ask for the hotel shuttle to drive you over there though. I’m planning to do that, so that we get there with no stress and then possibly walk back to the hotel and check out the campus on the way back.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the helpful info. I’ll ask at the desk about the shuttle - that would save time with the garage. We’ll be at Jacobs on February 1st. Good luck to your daughter!

You’re welcome. I’m not getting a rental car, so I had to check out other transportation options. Would you be willing to send me a message summarizing the day when you’re done? Tips, suggestions, even where to eat near the hotel. We’re flying to Miami next Wed and would love to know more about what to expect. I’ve found that the info coming from Frost regarding audition day is somewhat limited.

Thank you.

Sure - I’d be happy to send you a summary. We are flying into Fort Lauderdale so I am renting a car. But next week at Indiana I’m planning on an airport shuttle and public transportation. Have you ever been to Jacobs?

It is currently 7 degrees at my house - if anyone would like me to chaperone a student at this weekend’s audition at Frost, I’m happy to volunteer. :)

@stradmom: HAHAHA!

It is a relatively short walk from the Holiday Inn on Dixie Hwy to the music buildings.

@mom22girls. Thanks very much; I look forward to hearing more about your experience at audition day. No, we haven’t been to Jacobs, but I know there are a lot of other people on the forum that have been.

Looking forward to hearing how it went when you get back.

My son auditioned yesterday at Frost. There was a Holiday in very close to the school. If its that one then you could walk, and the weather is PERFECT for a stroll (we flew back last night into FREEZING NY weather!).
We stayed at the Hampton Inn just a 5 minute drive from the University. Getting around the campus was way easier than I expected and everyone is super friendly

And there is a shuttle from the garage to the Frost School. They run regularly and everyone is happy to help you out

…and I am happy to give anyone advice about the audition process there :)

My son is auditioning there this coming Friday for contemporary voice/songwriting. Any information/advice/feedback about the audition process is very much appreciated! Best of luck NYsaxmom!

A couple of things to note: the original e-mail stated that we would receive a parking pass in the mail; however, instead they sent a parking permit to my daughter via e-mail the day before we left for Frost.
Also they are not doing music theory assessments during audition weekend anymore.

@bonski. My D is auditioning there this coming Fri also for the Studio Music and Jazz vocals program. Good luck!

@ Christinenc1 there is another thread that deals with the audition day. It’s http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1439371-frost-school-music-audition.html</a>
Both mom22girls and I have added out input. Saves duplicating it here. You will love it there!!

@NYsaxmom. Yes, thank you. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between the two threads. Thanks for your added information on the other thread.
