Frost vs NYU (Music Tech & Bass)

Hello, I've applied to both the Frost School of Music (University of Miami) and NYU Steinhardt for Music Technology. I also seriously play Electric Bass (and some Double Bass). I'm still waiting to hear back from both schools, but I'd like to figure out where I'd like to go, so once I hear from a school I can know.

Generally I'm leaning towards Frost. I like how their program is run, with an emphasis on the engineering (computer or electrical) aspect of it, and earning a Bachelor of Science as opposed to a Bachelor of Music seems like it may be a little more "professional". Also, Frost has a very good reputation for Bass, I've heard time and time again from people that Frost is the place to go for Bass. Also the amazing campus and climate is a plus.

On the other hand, NYU Steinhardt has an extremely impressive new studio, and it's location in Manhattan could prove extremely useful as far as getting internships and connections. I don't have a great sense of how many internship opportunities are available in Miami, but I've read good things about it. I don't really have a great sense of the Bass department at Steinhardt.

The other things that lean me towards Frost are that (A) I currently live just outside of NYC and would sort of like to go to school somewhere farther away, and (B) NYU is much more expensive and is not known for giving out scholarships.

Let me know what you think.

I think this is a great discussion to have AFTER you have been accepted at both schools, and received viable financial packages from both places.

You will have plenty of time to decide then, once there really is a decision to be made.

Otherwise, if you decide now that you want to go to school A, and are only accepted at School B (or the financial package at School B is the only one that is reasonable), then you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

You liked both schools well enough to apply. Let the process play itself out, and leave the decision process for when it is applicable.
