Frustration

Hey CCers,
As an ED applicant, I'm having some issues with Cornell.
They haven't received my school report, high school transcript, or CSS profile yet.
I sent out the CSS more than a MONTH ago and when I called Cornell the financial aid officer said I had ALL my FA stuff in.
My school report/transcript were sent by my GC October 16th.
What is going on with Cornell?

If you are talking about the applicant ID page: It takes awhile for it to process and be updated. I sent in my transcript/letters of rec/school forms/financial aid application (with document and submitted CSS profile) awhile ago and it still hasn't come up online. It takes time.

give it a week, otherwise i would highly suggest having your school RE-SEND them and FAX them.... cornell kept saying last spring they hadn't received my transcript from my school up until late february and they gave me a week to get them the stuff, i had to LITERALLY watch my college counselor fax the forms....

and a few horror stories, my friend didn't find out until March 31st last year that UVA had never "received" her payment for her app even though she had documents from her credit card company that they indeed had received it and therefore they did not even look at her application... the people who you speak to on the phone are CIVR (cornell students, they expect these phone calls, DON"T be afraid to call, honestly it will not hurt your chances of getting in)

Just because it's not updated online doesn't mean it isn't there. There is a delay between Cornell's receiving of the materials and its processing and subsequent updating online.

It took them well over a week to update that they had received my October SATs even though I rush delivered them (I knew that they got them literally 2-3 days after the scores were released).

For the record, this apparent lag in their system is frustrating me as well! It does promote anxiety about whether they received the materials or not. I guess it wouldn't' be a bad idea to call them and find out if they have at least received the materials.

Yeah, I'm really concerned at this point. I'm going to call admissions and financial aid on Monday and if they don't have them yet, I might ask my guidance counselor to fax and resend my school report/transcript.

I think the lag in their system is unprofessional, especially for Early Decision: the volume of applicants isn't nearly as high as RD and yet they still can't handle incoming materials.
I'm getting really worried!

What about the CSS business though?
(bump)

where does it say anything about CSS? If I go to financial checklist it says I have nothing on my list to do. I sent it like 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, Silver, that's what it said on my list for a really long time, then all of a sudden it said that they hadn't received it yet.
I sent it on October 1st.

It says the same thing about the CSS profile for me. I submitted it about 3 weeks ago. If I remember correctly, it said, when I submitted the CSS profile, that it would take "Several" weeks to process and send. I think, as long as you submitted before November 1st, you should be okay.

chandlerbing~~haha~~i come in for your name~
yup, they have not recieved by school report neiteher

Well, I submitted it for the Regular Decision deadline on October 1st because that was the only option.
Hopefully I can fix this...

If you go onto the collegeboard site, and log on to the CSS profile, click on "check status of application" you will see the date you filed and the date that it was sent to the school.

Here is what they say:
"You have submitted your PROFILE Application to the College Board. Some colleges and scholarship programs request that the College Board delay sending student PROFILE reports until the date they specify. A report of your information has been, or will be, sent to the following colleges or programs on the indicated dates. Some colleges and programs choose to receive your information electronically. Those colleges and programs will receive your data according to the schedule they have requested, which can be as early as the next business day after submission.
If the date submitted meets your colleges' and programs' priority filing dates, your application will be considered on time. "

I was concerned also, since the CSS profile was the part I had to do (my son has applied ED to Humec-DEA). We sent the CSS profile in mid-October, and it was sent to Cornell on November 7th.

Yep, thanks pageturner the same happened for me: it was sent November 7th.
Thanks for the detailed info, though!
Good luck to your son at Human Ecology, I'm applying there too for the HBHS major.
What is DEA again? Design?

Design and Environmental Analysis. It's related to planning, designing and managing buildings and such, but not so intense as the architecture major.

Ah, that sounds very interesting and very HumEc-y.
Is it sort of like FSAD/fashion design or more architectural design?

Either. The major has three branches: interior design, facility planning and management, and human factors and ergonomics. My son's interest leans toward the facility planning option.

That sounds cool, isn't there something like that in the AAP school though?

Well, like biology in CAS, CALS, and Humec, there is more than one school to fit a need. The Facilities Planning degree is a business type degree related to "the built environment" (with design elements). My son has broad interests, and this seemed to fit him better than AAP. That, plus we live in NY.

Ah ok, sounds good. Yeah, the NY-residency bit is one really attractive thing about HumEc. But it actually fits me better than anything I've seen in any other colleges so far.
