Hey,

Is anyone thinking of doing the Freshmen summer start program, or has anyone been through the process? What are people's experience with it would anyone recommend it.

thanks!

Yea I applied for it. I'm not sure if you went to the Spring Insight on the 12th, but they had a great presentation on fssp.

There are many benefits to joining which include: taking some units (7-13) to get out of the way, learning your way around campus and the bike paths (very important; most freshmen will be clueless and clumsy/slow on the bike paths with 20,000 other students trying to make their way around), getting to know professors, having a network of friends before any other freshmen, and the best part is all the fun activities like BBQs and banquets/dances/parties.

As for people's experiences, here are some nice numbers:

91% of students stated that they were "very happy that (they) attended the Freshman Summer Start Program."

99% of students felt FSSP helped them make a "successful transition to the UCSB campus."

97% of students felt FSSP was effective in helping them "learn how to fit into University life."

96% of students felt FSSP helped them "gain confidence that (they) can succeed (at UCSB)."

that is from the fssp site:

Are freshman guaranteed a spot? I know we have to apply by may 1st, but as long as we apply by then, are we automatically in? I really want to go, but unfortunately, I am staying at a house without a printer, so I have to wait until I get home on the 20th to print the application form out. Also, does anyone have any examples of any of the activities that take place during the summer session? Are we allowed to stay on campus the week between the end of the summer session and the fall move in day?

you cant stay on campus between the end of the summer session and the fall move in day
