Is anyone planning to go to the Freshman Summer Start Program?
I'm considering.

^Once I know I'm going to SB for sure, I'm sending in my app. I'm definitely going to do it.

same as imgoin2college
just waiting for UCI and UCberkley (lol)

I'm just waiting for Stanford and Berkley. (But I would go to UCSB over UCB anyways).

i'm practically done waiting. haha i just havent heard from berkley but if i do get in, i'm going to sb anyway. (x

What major, anxious?

chemE. you?

Computer Science, BS.

So we're both in Engineering. Niiceee.

What other schools did you get into?

fun :D

i got into: uc santa cruz, uc davis, san diego state, long beach state, and cal poly pomona.

you?

UCSD, UCSC, Cal Poly SLO, San Francisco State, Long Beach State

Two of the same schools as you.

if you do the summer start program do you get to start in the fall as a 2nd semester freshmen? because if you do, and being a semester ahead carries through all the way to senior year you save like 20 thousand dollars because you would graduate early.... maybe? i dont know if thats how it works. help??

i dont know if you'll save that much, but yea you save a lot of money by doing graduating early. the summer sessions are cheaper than regular quarters, and you'll save money on housing too since the summer quarter is shorter. so u save both time and money =D

so you do get to graduate early???

lilyasdf

You graduate when you're done with all the things you need to accomplish. Say.. a certain number of courses.. or units.. or anything like that. Once you finish those you're done! It doesn't necessarily have to be after Spring of.. 2013 or something.. If you take summer school every year.. or take more units/classes that other students do during the year.. you'll finish you units quite some time earlier. So maybe you can graduate Fall of 2013 or Winter!

^yeah. i came to UCSB in fall 2008 (class of 2012) but I'm taking the max course load every quarter and gonna do summer school this year and next year. if i do so i'll have enough units to graduate in december 2010, but my problem is that i have to plan my classes carefully for every future quarter, and it's hard to get all the classes as planned since they often get filled up before i can sign up which is frustrating. if that happens, i can easily graduate in march 2011 which is still early.

one thing is that you should weigh the benefits and drawbacks from graduating early and from graduating not-that-early. like, spending 4 years in college may give you more stuff to put on you're resume but it costs more to stay longer in school, but graduating earlier will save you a lot of money and time but you have to take more classes per quarter.

one person that i know is graduating this june. he'll have spent only 3 years in college =D

I have a question about the FSSP. Is it required that you complete two FAFSA's? I see the website mention both an '08-'09 FAFSA and a '09-'10 FAFSA. Can anyone explain?

If you want to apply for fin aid during FSSP, you have to do last year's FAFSA (as summer school is part of the previous school year, not the next).

So If you already applied for fin aid with this year's FAFSA for UCSB next fall-it doesn't matter; you need to submit last year's one as well.

Well... I don't know too much about it.. but here's a little of what I read about!

You can only apply for financial aid for Summer if you already have a FAFSA on file at UCSB for '08 - '09. If you don't have one filed with UCSB, hurry up and submit a '08 - '09 FAFSA! And even when you have a '08 - '09 FAFSA filed... yes, you still have to file another FAFSA for summer. The summer application should be online at UCSB Financial Aid on April 13th! In order to be eligible for grants and such, you're summer app must be in by may 29, or else it's due by june 29.

Yep.

Ah that's disappointing. I may or may not sign up for this! Thanks guys

hey,
I'm a 1st year at sb right now (class of 2012), and i did FSSP and i loved doing it, it may be my favorirte quarter at sb after being here for 3 quarters now
its small (350 did it last year) and all 3 of my roommates that im living with next year are friends that i met in fssp (that is not unusual )

if you guys have any questions about fssp, let me know!
