It’s possible, but unlikely. While I’m sure that choice of major plays a small role since there is a certain threshold of how many students each major can comfortably accommodate, it’s not going to be a huge factor.
The reason for that is that students are usually not formally admitted to their intended major until they meet a certain credit hour threshold and have met certain pre-requisites. For Arts/Sciences that’s usually around 52-58 credit hours. Until then, students aren’t formally admitted to their major, and a lot of students change their major before they are formally admitted.
One anecdotal piece of evidence that I have that FSU probably doesn’t weigh intended major very much is that the number of incoming environmental science majors just a couple years ago was almost 3 times what the department thought was their feasible maximum (straight from a faculty member of the department).
Congrats to those that have been accepted. If you have been deferred until the March decision date, your best bets are to retake the SAT/ACT, send in your mid-year grades (make sure you don’t have any semester grades below a C this year!), and if possible, reach out to the Admissions department and inquire as to why you might have been deferred. Showing interest despite being deferred can be beneficial by showing that you are more likely to attend FSU if ultimately accepted.

@iman1998 you don’t have the presidential scholarship. That requires an extensive application and interview in March. You might possibly have the University Freshman Scholarship, but that in no way guarantees Presidential Scholars. Only 25 incoming freshman receive Presidential Scholars; about 10% of accepted students receive the UFS.
You’re correct, I actually did the application for the presidential scholarship and received the university freshman scholarship already. Also, they are the same award amount I believe.
@Iman1998 Presidential scholars is an additional $2400 a year along with a $12,000 stipend for academic enrichment. No where near the same amount imho lol.
@stem2017 pretty much. If there’s a massive mistake (like you received a 34 ACT and a 4.4 GPA) then there’s a chance it was a computer error and scholarship should be awarded, but that’s unlikely. Unless the student falls outside of the 75% range for GPA and/or ACT/SAT they most likely didn’t get anything. Although of course it won’t hurt to call to ask!

Pretty good essay
I called yesterday and inquired about the freshman scholarship. Was told the cutoff is a 4.0 weighted core GPA. Guess that’s not in the cards for my D but I’m extremely grateful for the OOS Waiver. Looks like she’s FSU bound. Go 'Noles!!
We just got an email saying that there is a financial aid award and to click on the “finances” tab but I can’t find any such tab! I just activated the FSUID so maybe it takes time. Hopefully there will be something to show by tomorrow. We would not qualify for any need based aid.
@marg928 With your FSUID, log into my.fsu.edu. Toward the middle of the page, you will see three tabs that say “Financial Aid”, “Student Accounts”, and “FSU Card”. Click on the “Financial Aid” tab. You should see something there.
My son has not yet received that email. But, I do see a financial aid package for 2017/2018 posted to his account. A small FSU grant plus a combo of subsidized and unsubsidized loans.
He was accepted for Summer 2017. Perhaps he hasn’t yet been notified because they don’t yet have any aid posted for that term. We needed to file the 2016/2017 FAFSA on Monday to be eligible for any Summer aid. It will probably take them a few more days to get that posted.
