FSU 2021 Accepted/Rejected/Deferred Thread

Congrats on everyone who got in and fingers crossed for all who got deferred. Wishing you all the best of luck in the college application process.

@marg928 . Thank you for the support… I was shocked… and it’s my Alma mater… definitely was not reviewed holistically in my opinion…
And yes appears that at least one school is not moving away from it…

I think my friends that are coaches and work there are kinda shocked as well

@mykidscheer looks to me like standardized test scores are extremely important here. For example look up 3 posts to the person whose D got full OOS tuition waiver. My D has the same GPA unweighted (our school doesn’t report weighted), more AP classes than her (total of 5) but 100 points lower on the SAT and my D got zero dollars!

you got people on the inside, and she still didn’t get in? bummer.

@ibox505 what about you? did you get accepted?

@frykera i didn’t have them go advocate for her… I was a believer that her high gpa and ECs would speak for themselves …

@mykidscheer I wasn’t saying that haha, my friend who applied also, had a really high gpa and a 2400 on the old SAT and still didn’t get in. So, again, I don’t know what’s up with that :-? Have her apply for UF or have her retake the SAT for the next go around

@Raam1012 what’s your intended major if you don’t mind me asking

@mykidscheer - Ugh, that sucks. I’m sorry for your daughter! Just wanted to mention that both of my kids got much more out of taking as many practice tests as possible (ACT review books etc) and looking up their wrong answers than the prep course I paid for. I wanted to mention just in case she plans on retaking the test.

I felt like making a thread for the second round of applications that are being poured in, so I’ll post my stats up first

Still waiting for UT Austin

@frykera - undecided (I think they call it exploratory)

These are tough to read. My son was denied. Yet, his stats are better than some being reported on here who were accepted. It is only tough because HE wanted it so much. I honestly wanted him somewhere else. Yet, I have been praying for him and if this door was closed… It is not where God is sending him. I was telling him last night that these college years are pivotal years going into adulthood. You meet some of your lifetime friends and often meet your lifetime mate. If this door is closed than your path resides somewhere else. Still hard for him to swallow. There is a reason. If your stats are on the lower in… Please be grateful.

As one who has stats on lower end - we are super grateful. My thoughts on what could have helped in getting in is - super essay - MULTIPLE attempts at both SAT/ACT with improvement along the way, very rigorous senior year with more than part time job and mostly As throughout (very few Bs). I am a firm believer in God’s plan and everything happens for a reason. @FLMADRE your son will find his place that is meant for him. This is not my first go around with a college student and neither time has been easy but they truly do find peace and happiness where they are wanted.

3.1 GPA

Accepted!

Last year FSU had a statement on their Admission page that they required a minimum of 500 on each section of the old SAT. When the new language came out addressing the rSAT that statement disappeared.

We heard from a rep at a college night that the in-states were not sure how to evaluate the the rSAT scores yet and would use the applicant pool as a way to gauge the test.

My guess is FSU established a minimum score requirement for each section of the rSAT, we just don’t know it yet.

Based on the Concordance tables, that could be a 530 on Math and a 560 on the EBRW. Again this is just a guess, but if you have good stats, but have a low score on one part of the SAT it may be worth a retake of the SAT to try to bring that one score up.

@Raam1012 lmao, I just saw someone on here with stats similar to mine, and they got accepted. I’m a bit disappointed. Heck, my friend who had a 2.9 gpa even got accepted, meanwhile I’m sitting here looking dumbfounded … however, they did tell me that they would reconsider my application once I submitted mid-year grades and my new SAT score.

@FLMADRE it makes me highly upset for the kids who have been working their whole lives to keep their gpa up, knowing what college they’re going to, have the stats, the requirements, and they don’t get accepted. Best thing I can tell you to do, is retake the SAT, update the mid-year grades on SSARs and hope for the best. Hopefully, they actually look into consideration. My friend who has a 4.8 and 2400 on the Old Sat got flat out denied, and they didn’t even tell him why. “Try again.” He got accepted to UF, but that’s besides the point. Everyone who got in, like she said, you’re extremely lucky. Best hope for the second round for your son.

Is there a GroupMe set up?
