I hear that the campus restaurants such as Subway, Chick fil A , Denny's etc do no take their own company gift cards. Is this true? I am planning to get a meal plan, with limited flex bucks and my family was going to send me gift cards for some of the restaurants.

That’s never been my experience. I guess some of them might not, since I don’t think they’re much more than the company’s logo on a restaurant operated by Aramark and not the other company itself, but I’ve never once had issues using a gift card at any of the restaurants where I’ve had one.

Granted, I’ve never had a Denny’s gift card.

If you’re that worried about it, you can have your parents give you Garnet Bucks instead of gift cards. They’re usable all over campus.

I have used Einstein gift cards with no problem. The on-campus restaurants don’t always participate in the promotions that are advertised though, since there is usually a disclaimer that states “only at participating locations” but occasionally Seminole Dining does offer the same deals at the FSU locations.

Subway, especially right after they opened, did get a reputation for not accepting coupons or doing some of the corporate specials. I know that irked a lot of people, because from what I understand the Subway on campus is owned by the same person who owns the Subways on Tennessee Street west of campus (near Ocala St) and the one right off campus along Tennesee Street, near Gumby’s Pizza (that’s just what I’ve heard). Apparently though they have since begun to do a lot of the promotions, because I never had an issue going there.

I’ve never had any issues with Denny’s not participating in some of the specials.

The only one I really know from your list that doesn’t regularly participate is that the Chik-Fil-A right off campus doesn’t participate in “College Night” like the ones downtown do. Granted, if the place wasn’t always packed and the line for the drive-thru didn’t wrap around the building and into the street half the time, maybe they would participate. It doesn’t make sense for them to give away stuff for free to get customers in the door when they’ve got a packed house already.

If you’re concerned about not being able to use corporate gift cards, have you looked into not getting a meal plan at all, and instead using Garnet Bucks?

You don’t have to pay a processing fee (it’s $50 I believe for a meal plan for the year), they’re usable everywhere, etc.
