FSU Class of 2022 Accepted/Rejected

Accepted with Freshman Scholarship (In State).

3.7 UW
4.3 FSU GPA
32 ACT

Lots of leadership, extracurriculars and volunteer hours.

It appears that the University chose to give tremendously more money to their out of state applicants than in state. While this is certainly their choice to make, it’s somewhat disheartening to the in state students who had higher stats than the OOS ones, yet didn’t get scholarship of any kind. I understand wanting to geographically diversify the population, but in the end it’s a STATE university. I’m not speaking specifically for my child, but just in general, living here in Tallahassee and knowing some of the kids who did receive it last year vs this year, it’s surprising.

@sseder, what does mean to “update the SSAR so the GPA calculated the way they wanted”? When my daughter filled out SSAR she just indicated classes with either A,B, etc. Was their something more we needed to do? How do we know what GPA FSU has calculated?

@alwew3, I kind of see why you think that, but us OOS peeps aren’t getting scholarships, other than a discount on the difference between the in state and out of state tuition. I would take having to pay “in state” without a scholarship than “out of state” with a partial tuition waiver any day. If my daughter attends, I’m still paying an extra $7222 per year. Also, aren’t the Florida kids getting the state scholarships no matter what? That brings FSU’s COA extremely inexpensive compared to every other state school. I’m just speaking from my personal situation. DD has been accepted to 7 state schools, and FSU is by far the cheapest. Unfortunately, she’ll probably pick the most expensive on the list (UGA). Lord help me.

Congratulations to all who were admitted!

Does anybody know the exact dates of the orientation for the Summer Session? Is it mandatory if you are out of state? Thank you!!

@MotherRusher In-state students with qualifying SAT/ACT scores, WGPAs, and sufficient volunteer hours can qualify for FL’s Bright Futures scholarships (which can be used at any of the FL public universities and participating private schools within the state). The highest tier used to cover about half the tuition and fees, but it looks very promising that the state legislature will make the increases that were applied last year permanent. That will have the highest tier (Florida Academic Scholars) cover the full tuition and fees plus $300/semester for books. It’s a very generous package for those that qualify (3.5 WGPA, 29/1290 SAT/ACT, 100 hours community service while in HS). I think this is one of the reasons that UF and FSU offer so little in freshman merit aid compared to other schools.

So my daughter was accepted for the summer. Can she be waitlisted for fall? Her twin did not get in (or was offered the TCC program. Can she reapply in February or is that for students that haven’t applied yet? Also I read she will need to take a minimum of six credit hours for the summer session can those be online? Or if not will she have classes all week?

Was the program for TCC called “Seminole pathway”?

If so, then she was accepted to Spring 2018 and she doesnt need to re-apply. Call admin for all the info.

@MotherRusher yes my daughter will get an instate scholarship from the state, and we are fine but many kids are not- what I’m saying is it’s a STATE school- other states (and trust me my daughter has applied to many) have offered nice scholarships- 40-50K but that’s still nowhere near the value FSU is giving with the OOS tuition waivers. Auburn will still be 28,000 a year despite the seemingly generous scholarship and other schools more. The OOS waiver is far more generous really. It brings FSU down to $20,000 for OOS kids, while instate kids with the same scores will still be paying $11-12000.

For those interested, Admissions confirmed that the 1/2 OSS tuition waiver stats were 29 ACT, 4.0 weighted GPA (by FSU standards, whatever that means).

Do you know what the full OOS waiver stats were? My son got the 50% waiver which we are thrilled about, but cant help but wonder how close he might have been. He had 4.17 GPA AND 1370 SAT.

@alwew3

The OOS merit scholarships attract higher stat applicants which in turn helps FSU’s rankings.

As they have moved up the rankings, applications have increased, and merit has been reduced. Lots of this years OOS applicants would have qualified for the Freshman Scholarships which are now for instate only. I do agree with you that FSU is generous to some OOS students and equally generous to instate. Per Kiplinger - one of the best values around for both.

Hi! I was admitted into FSU for Spring 2019 through the Seminole Pathways Program…Is that good or bad? I have another question, also. How are y’all able to access your FSU gpa? Did y’all calculate it by yourself or did y’all go to a certain place on the FSU website to access it?

@fl2018, full OOS waiver was a 30 ACT score, 4.0 GPA. I don’t remember the SAT cutoff. Your son was probably close,

Following… Same situation with my son

If your accepted to the summer program can you attend the Panama city FL campus? Or are there online courses that are offered?

@fl2018 I’d call and ask about the full OOS waiver. A 1370 SAT score correlates to a 31 ACT so you should have qualified for the full, not the 50%. It’s worth asking. Also worth asking admissions if he doesn’t qualify for the full waiver with that SAT score and he was to take the ACT now and submit a score of 30 or higher will they update it to the full OOS waiver. I’ve heard of that happening. FYI for my child the ACT was a higher score than the SAT so your son would probably have no problem getting the 30 ACT score.

@ellisa The Seminole pathway means you have 3 choices, do a semester abroad, or go to panama city campus or TCC (I recommend) for 1 semester taking 5 classes. You must maintain a 3.0, then you go in as a transfer. They had 42k apps average gpa 4.1-4.4, ACT 28-32. My son had 1320 sat 3.53 wgpa. GPA was on lower side. TCC is less than 10 minutes from FSU.Apartments all around campus.
