Sry for so many questions but does anyone think I would be considered for scholarships since I also have the same decision notification date (which was unexpected but exciting lol)? I’m oos if that helps
IDK. They noted that Dec. 1 was application deadline to be considered for merit scholarships.
I don’t know that FSU limits OOS acceptances as some schools do, and no I don’t believe the requirements are different for OOS. The SAT score isn’t too far off middle admitted range - if not for fall admit, maybe summer admit. GPA is hard to compare since FSU recalculates.
I think big unknown is how many applications they received. At one point they were down 23% due to not being test-optional. But I’m sure that gap closed closer to the 12/1 deadline.
Thank you… I just keep telling him and myself if it’s meant to be, it will be. The process just seems so daunting, I think because we have nothing else to focus on with the shutdown. Not being able to have activities outside of home making college apps are our only real excitement.
They ended up receiving 23% less applications, I believe. They will definitely need those OOS students!
@laritalara Thanks for sharing that! It’s really amazing, given what’s happening with other schools. I’m curious how you found that; I searched high and low and couldn’t find any data from them on this year’s application pool.
The 23% was in an article about all Florida schools. I think the Orlando Sentinal. But it was from 6 weeks prior to RD deadline. Don’t know what final numbers were.
By comparison, University of Florida was also down, but ended up getting their most applications ever with most coming right near deadline.
So, who knows?
My daughter was admitted her freshman year oos with a 1320 and 4.3 gpa. She chose to go elsewhere and has now reapplied to FSU as a transfer.
Officially there is no difference in state or out of state, but because so many kids have prepaid and bright futures nearly every kid in the state applies to an instate school. So as far as FSU, you have the top 25% of every high school applying, but weird year so you never know. Good luck.
@laritalara @kdzmom the rumor mill down here seems to think apps are up, bc UCF is asking for 1st semester grades and are accepting Dec scores. Meaning they are being selective, so it will probably trickle up. But that’s the rumor mill.
Since it was referenced, here is a link to the Orlando Sentinel article on fewer Florida applications. This reports FSU was down 32% (not 23% as I mentioned) in mid-October.
But who knows where they ended up on Dec. 1.
The info I have is from a report I received from a college counseling company that has me in their database. FSU was down 23%, FIU was down 26% and UF ended up getting 3,000 more applications than 2019. And this was after they extended their deadline 2 weeks, allowing students more time to take the SAT/ACT.
I just attended a webinar last week, hosted by Score at the Top and got this info. Usually they end up posting the presentations online so you can probably watch on YouTube. FSU is up 10% for fall. Summer is slightly down, but FSU is up slightly overall. UF is up slightly. UCF is down 4%, but anticipates being even with last year as they are rolling. The other articles have outdated info. The one thing we don’t know is how many applications don’t have scores attached. I think both FSU and UF at one point in early December had tons of applications without scores. The question is how many people submitted the scores by the deadline. Applications without test scores shouldn’t count towards these numbers.
Thank you. So many schools reported apps up this year, but that’s likely driven by test optional, which of course isn’t applicable here, although UF reported apps were up. OOS D is having such a lousy senior year of HS (and hates that we have freezing temps and a foot of snow on the ground), so I am really hoping for some happy news for her this month. But I should know better than to try to read the tea leaves.
Yea some could just not take the test. So didn’t even apply. Some I heard didn’t take the test and applied anyway. I mean if you can’t take it you can’t take it. I do believe it’s going to hurt them but that’s just my thoughts. I also think that unless your heart was 100% set on attending FSU, you didn’t keep retaking the test either as might have been done before.
Mine went test optional for many schools except FSU and UCF. Once the acceptances and merit started coming in, she no longer stressed over taking the test again in hopes to better her score to get into FSU. She submitted and will see what happens. She got into UCF but hasn’t received merit.
I hope she gets good news soon! Go Noles!
Are we for sure hearing on the 18th or could it come sooner?
I haven’t ever seen it come out early. I think we will just have to keep waiting.
Did everyone get the email stating their application review was complete?
Yes we received it here.
