I heard from a college counselor (who heard from admissions) that as of mid December test scores and gpa were up from last year but only about 70% had applied with test scores. Not sure how it ended up.
Along these lines, the assumption is that students werenāt able to take the tests as many times as theyād like. So the scores wonāt be as high as they might be.
Well, 70% seems like a pretty large sample size. Am I wrong?
I think the point is FSU is not test optional, so 30% of the applications (at the time) would not be considered.
@sec130 yes that is what I was pointing out but, in mid December there was still time left to submit scores. But they did say test scores and gpa were up at that moment in time compared to last year.
Oh, I thought flprepaidmom meant that 70% of the apps had been submitted. Sorry.
Are OOS waivers awarded at the time of admission? I think I read that they came later (but not a lot later). I could be wrong though.
Do you think anticipating an out of state waiver with a 33 superscore is likely?
Based on past yearsā scores, yes, assuming GPA is in range as well. However, thatās if the student is accepted. Apparently admissions can be kind of unpredictable for OOS.
In other words, if the student crosses the threshold for acceptance (which is sometimes tough to guess), then that student will probably get the waiver.
It has occurred to me that they may limit the amount of high stat OOS kids they accept, knowing that it will cost them money in merit/OOS waivers. Idk though.
Edited to add: I just reread your question and had missed the word āsuperscore.ā Iām not familiar with FSUās policy on superscoring as it pertains to OOS waivers. Good luck though!
She has a 4.0 and 8 AP courses with High scores. I hope she has a chance as she has worked so hard
@labradoodlemom Love your screen name. I am a Labradoodle Mom too!
The real kicker for me is that before submitting applications, there was a lot of advice to send scores if they fell in the middle 50% range. My daughter is one who tested in February and studied for 3 subsequent tests that got canceled. By the time she was able to test again, she had lost momentum and ended up with the same composite score in October but increased her super score. By then, she gave up on testing and refused to sit for December. Had she been able to test in April, I have no doubt her composite would be higher. Hopefully, it is enough for FSU. She has a solid GPA, good leadership, work experience, and has taken 5 APās.
My son applied two years ago. As others have said, it comes with your admission decision.
Reading all of the conversation on ACT, I have no doubt applications will be way down so while scores may be up, they still have a class to fill so if yields stay consistent, they need to be more aggressive. I also believe when you quote FSU #s itās a super score # - a non super score # does not exist.
While they may have a lot of last minute applications with one ACT score, if they are lower - those kids wonāt get in. Iām not saying itās right but just reality.
Whatās scary to me is their OOS acceptance was 19% last year. Thatās very low and they have great kids applying - so i wonder if ACTs in general for OOS are higher than for the class as a whole.
I feel good about my daughters prospects with a 32 super score and 4.53, but when you hear 19%, nothing is a given.

This is the FSU stats last year. The superscore ACT range was 29-32 (25th/75th percentile), much higher than you read in 3rd party publications like Niche. The GPA was very high - 4.1 to 4.5 and the # of AP/DE classes was #9.
Society might think of them as a regular, large state school but you look at those #s and theyāre frankly impressive. Like many, Iām proud of my daughter with her 32, 4.53 and 9 ACT - which makes her 25th percentileā¦but certainly not well above nor a lockā¦like I originally thought.
Thatās crazy. I think itās impressive if you get admittedā¦perhaps the ranking will move up over the next few years to the next tier of Georgia, Wisconsin, Illiniois, etc.
Less than a week, guys!
@tsbna44 Those numbers are fall. You can still get summer admit with lower numbers.
@Radiantnicbo , your stats seem good enough for consideration, but Presidential is pretty holistic. After stats, they seem to be looking for students who have a drive and passion for a particular thing. Read some of the bios of the current Presidential Scholars and that may give you an idea. Good luck!
Does anyone know what time decisions come out on Friday? My daughter went yesterday to campus and walked around and loved it!!! We are from New Jersey
I think itās Thursday
Itās 4pm on 2/18, I believe
