From the Tallahassee Democrat:

"FSU's creative writing program was ranked in the nation's top 10 for students looking to explore a graduate degree or a Ph.D. in creative writing, according to the literary magazine.

The program is compared to other universities such as Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, New York University and the University of Virginia.

However, the magazine lists the ten best creative writing program in alphabetical order, not ranking.

Its a very great and serious honor to see our English departments Creative Writing Program cited as best of the best in the country for graduate students, but perhaps its no wonder, FSU College of Arts and Sciences Dean Joseph Travis said. Our creative writing faculty and students are real players on the national and international scene.

The program's faculty includes Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Olen Butler and is home to winners of the National Book Award and more honorees in Best American Poetry than any other program.

Mark Winegardner, who is the author of the Godfather sequels, is the director of the graduate and doctoral creative writing programs.

It should certainly help to draw even more top creative writing students to our FSU program, he said.

The program is not for the occasional scribe.

"Make sure you have the drive," said Jacqueline Ortiz, a recent graduate of the creative writing program. "You are writing 15 page papers, 30 page short stories. It's competitive. The teachers take it seriously and the students around you take it even more seriously."
