On Friday FSU finally made it official - they are cutting 1000 spots in the freshmen class for 2008.

The target is 2000 freshmen for summer and 3300 for fall. Last year 6300 were admitted, this year is will only be 5300.

Numbers will be cut from the low academic (SAT/ACT/GPA) end of applicants still waiting on a decision and serious review will take place of accepted students' final hs grades.

500 spaces are also being cut from accepted transfers and only transfers with an AA degree will be accepted.

"serious review will take place of accepted students' final hs grades."

I'm certain my final grade in AP enviro will be a C.Am i doomed?

No way to know.. it all depends on how bad other students' grades are and how many people need to be shaved off to reach the 5300 number. I think you are ok as long as you do not get any D's and don't get too many C's in core academic classes. Don't let your GPA drop too far from where it was at the point of acceptance. Final grades will be reviewed more closely then the past.

Tough stuff.

Best of luck to all applicants.

ugh.

I'm fairly certain that these will be my final grades:

English 4 honors:A
Math Analysis honors(pre-cal):B
Economics honors(.5 credit):A
Government honors(.5 credit):A
AP Enivro:C
Philosophy(.5 credit):A
World religions(.5 credit):A
AP Japanese: B

So chance me.....at not getting rescinded please!!! haha

Honestly, if those are your final grades you will not be rescinded.

From the 2007 Common Data Set
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) who applied 24,343
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) who were admitted 13,415
This is 55%
Total full-time, first-time, first-year (freshman) who enrolled 6,133
This is 46% so 46% who were admitted actually went to FSU.

I don't think they are admitting 1,000 less, they are targeting 1,000 actually enrolling. So if their target is 1000 less enrolled, they will admit approximately 2,200 less.

tzais01

you are on target. if FSU intends to maintain a "yield" of 46% and reduce freshman enrollment to 5200, then they can admit approximately 11,300 which is 2,000 less then last year.

the other variable here is that fsu appears intent on opening up more admission spaces to oos students. clearly moving forward it appears that this trend will remain in force... smaller freshman class and more oos spplicants getting accepted.

for 2009 and beyond, we could see the freshman class size reduced further depending on financial considerations.

I feel so fortunate that my s got his application in early and got his accpetance back in november. now he just needs to maintain his grades for the balance of the year.

good luck to all future applicants!

I think you're OK, tk. Nice job.

A "C" in an AP course is nothing to be worried about. The "B" in AP Japanese is impressive.

Next year, however...all bets are off.
