so i got accepted to fsu back in december but didn't sign up for housing because i was sure that i was going to go to uf instead. i did get into uf, but once i actually visited the campus, i realized it was not for me AT ALL. i love the fsu campus and it felt like "the one" haha so that's where i'm going =)

anyway my priority number is in the 5000s which i'm guessing is really bad. i was just wondering, is there any way possible that i could get a somewhat nice dorm? or at least not the worst ones. i've read a ton of things online about smith and deviney and kellum and all of those ones being social, but also not that great. i really like broward and bryan and gilchrist, but i don't think that my number is high enough to get in to those. also, i did not get an invitation to the honors college, so i don't think i'm going to try for the first semester at least. i was on the housing website and there was something that talked about changing housing assignments before moving in? can anyone tell me about this? does that mean if i get into a dorm i don't like, i can meet with them and see if there are any extra spaces in broward or gilchrist? also, i've looked into the learning communities, but i don't know what i'm majoring in yet so i don't think i fall into that category.

You’re likely going to end up in one of those dorms… although they may not be the best living conditions for some people the social really does make up for it!

It’s a reassignment request.
[The Florida State University - University Housing Reassignments](http://www.housing.fsu.edu/reassignments.html)
As soon as you get your housing assignment fill this out. Kids will be switching rooms up through the first month at least so it’s definitely worth a shot. You fill out the form and then wait for a reassignment e-mail —they can take a long while to process so don’t fret when you don’t get a reassignment the next week.

I agree. Fill out a reassignment. Sometimes a reassignment does not come until the first week of school. But if you persist, you can get into a great dorm even with that number.

Too be honest, a lot of students get a reassignment, and don’t take it because they end up liking their original dorm, the roommates, the suitemates, etc.

Ahh…but a crappy dorm at FSU is better then a great dorm at UF! Enjoy the journey; you’ll love FSU. (Actually, I don’t believe there are any “crappy” dorms, but just some that are “more broken-in”, like your oldest pair of jeans!!)

you might want to re-look at the bryan hall learning community. I don’t think it’s specific to any major and the whole dorm is a learning community. It’s very close to Gilchrist.

Floridastate07 - One bright spot: Smith, Kellum and Deviney are considerably less expensive than the renovated dorms, if that is a consideration. My daughter has a great number and she loves Reynolds (where her brother is), but is considering requesting Smith because her best friend (who she wants to room with) is having to finance FSU without her parents’ help and she just can’t justify the extra $1200 per year for the renovated dorms.

yeah im in somewhat a similar situation here. my number is like 1920 something and my choices were gilchrist, broward, deviney, and dorman because i couldnt think of anyothers and they were all pretty much in a centralized location, which i liked. plus i have my roomate more important than dorm. any chance my friend and i could get gilchrist or broward? and which is a better choice, deviney or dorman?

you guys are awesome. thanks for helping!
for the bryan hall lc, what do you have to do to get in? any specific grades or test scores or anything? and does it matter that i have a bad priority number?
i really do like the east side dorms the most, even if they are a little more expensive. i like how they’re all gothic-y looking and stuff. =) but as far as picking my top 4 dorm choices, do you guys have any suggestions? should i try for those east side dorms or should i just put in for the other ones (like smith and kellum, etc) and choose the ones that are the best out of those? would i even have a chance to get one of the east side ones?

Here’s the lowdown from a current Freshman.

I live in Degraff and it’s a nice place, next to the strip. Degraff and Wildwood are the two best dorms w/o a meal plan. If you want to live by the Landis Green/Strozier, that requires a meal plan. Most of them are Honor students though in Landis/Gilchrist/Reynolds. The thing about the living learning communities like Bryan, you have to go to attend class if you live there. By that I mean living in Bryan means there is a class that goes along with it. Got friends that live there and you have to write unnecessary essays.

And the community style dorms are pretty bad and small compared to Wildwood and Degraff.

my friend’s son lived in the Bryan community and loved it. You have to apply for it–you can find the information in the housing area. There’s a couple of essays for the application. You take a class right in the dorm–so that guarantees you one small class size course. They choose from the applicants, your priority number doesn’t play into it as far as I can tell.

That’s good to hear. I picked Wildwood as my first choice and DeGraff as 2nd. Landis and Gilchrist were last. I hope they don’t just try to fill up Landis with honors students and put me in there even though I don’t want to be… My priority number was in the 800s though =/

Oh and is Wildwood really the only dorm besides Landis and Gilchrist with wireless access? I play online games from time to time on my consoles.

Degraff has wireless too. Landis wireless is really choppy if your on the basement.

I use my XBOX Live with the ethernet cable though(for a stable connection).

If you live in the dorms by Landis Green, there isn’t any parking next to the dorm like Degraff/Wildwood/Smith/Kellum does. You’d have to park in the garage.

i’m planning on getting a meal plan my first year (probably the smallest one they offer). i know that broward requires that, and so i’m wondering, do you think i should put broward as my #1 even though my priority number is really high? or should i just go ahead and put some of the cheaper dorms because i’ll probably be placed there anyway?
