FSU Fall 2008 SAT Average Increases

The average SAT for Fall 2008 is now 1265 with an average ACT of 28.

See: FSU Highlights

For purposes of comparison:

FSU: 1265 (committed to attend students) See: FSU Highlights
U Miami: 1275 (likely "accepted" students and thus higher than reality) See: University of Miami Fact Finder 2007 - 2008 | University of Miami
U Florida: 1280 (post drop-add - Fall 2007 - (1190+1370/2)) See: Office of Institutional Planning and Research - UF Factbook

This is a reasonable estimate based on the available data. Ideally, we want to compare the same periods and the same measure, but that seems impossible as the universities publish what they want.

Based on this data it is fair to say that with FSU's 2008 Fall class SAT performance these three schools are now within 20 points of each other. The one wild one is Miami, as "accepted" SAT scores are typically higher than the more conservative values posted by UF and FSU.

It seems that restricting enrollment put FSU back where it used to be with regard to in-state schools.

It appears to me that UF is still in front, barely, but its a guess as to which school is second.

Actually, if you look at UF's common data set, their average SAT is a 1250 and the middle 50% for ACT is 24-29. You should stop trying to validate your school -- there's nothing wrong with FSU. Posting this data isn't proving anything when it's probably inaccurate anyways.

Thanks for the advice. :)

Given the amount of misinformation frequently posted about Florida State its still necessary to provide some correct data.

I should also mention that FSU has recently reduced freshmen enrollment by 20% and just raised tuition. These actions, particularly the reduction in enrollment, greatly increased the difficulty in gaining admission. Applicants need to know this information, and many times they don't know where to look.

Some find their way here and post a "chances" thread. Many times other students/applicants, particularly from competing schools, post terribly wrong or misleading information that hurts the applicant and the university.

As an FSU alumnus and a parent of one graduate and one current student I have information that can correct these errors of fact and provide some correct information to applicants. Other parents, students and at least two FSU faculty members/employees do likewise.

We care about Florida State University and the students. :)

The current SAT/ACT information is very important as applicants underestimate the difficulty of admission and even of the offerings of the university.

Thanks for the updates. It reinforces for us (OOS) the fact that we still need to up our game everywhere we can.

Adding the lower and upper quartile and dividing by 2 does not obtain an average, it merely finds the median score. Thus, by comparing the average score from FSU and the median score from UF, two seperate statistics are being compared.

I know that and said it's only a reasonable estimate. ;)
