@jrmutley --yes the “transfer” I was referencing is a current FSU Freshman. Second time applicant I believe. I have heard from fsu film students that volunteering either as an actor or crew is definitely recommended when applying as a transfer.
No problem, I actually asked my son before suggesting to you and he was game. He’s too focused on his next film to worry about the roommate process like his mom is, but he doesn’t know how a bad roomie can make/break a good year. I think the roommate deadline is April 3rd, coming up, and he has a contract number of 1240, hoping to find someone around that number.
Hi guys! I was accepted on the 13th. I was in the same group as Lexie.
Congratulations @movielover123 !!
Yes… congratulations, @movielover123 My daughter was in the same group… but no word yet.
Wow… decisions are starting to just show up unexpectedly. Yesterday, daughter was admitted to UMiami. Tonight… admitted to Emory but rejected from UVa. So, she is 5 & 2 so far, but I expect many more rejections to come. Three years ago, her sister was 5 & 12 (ugh). It is all just getting so real now, and it will all be over by April 1. And then finally the applicants get to be courted and decide
Good luck to others on this thread expecting decisions over the next week+
Congrats on the Emory admission @WWWard.
Thanks. It would normally be less appealing, but the growth of film and tv development in and around Atlanta makes it more tempting… at least if other doors end up getting closed.
This is exciting and stressful and I don’t even have a kid in it this year. @WWWard --I would say being in Atlanta would be a wonderful thing. We work the Atlanta market and I hear from creative directors all the time how many film students they hire just because they are in Atlanta. And FSU grads are moving there every year. Congrats on Emory–great school and wonderful market. More opportunities there than Miami, for example, for sure.
And congrats @movielover123 ! That’s great!
Thanks, @cruzanlady Yes… the Atlanta factor is intriguing. Emory is a great school, but it is a B.A. in Film Studies and not a mainly production based program. They do offer a concentration in Film and Media Management (the business of film) which seems intriguing… and of course internships in L.A. and Atlanta. It would not be the same as the BFA offerings in actual film production at FSU or USC, but it may be something to consider along with UTexas… if USC and FSU prove to be unattainable goals.
@WWWard --All true. I’ve been surprised that as Georgia has continued to commit to the film incentives in the state and Pinewood studios has grown, the Atlanta based universities have not seized the opportunity to create a first class film program. I’ve watched both Emory and Agnes Scott to see what they offer and it does seem like they are paying attention but maybe not fast enough. I know in speaking with creative directors/art directors on jobs in Atlanta they do hire fairly consistently from SCAD and FSU in the commercial markets, but most of the FF work is still coming out of LA. That’s changing in the indy market though. Still crossing fingers for you on USC and FSU.
Thanks, @cruzanlady We at least know that USC is mailing out decisions tomorrow, for arrival in FL Saturday, or that the admin portals at least update after 12am Sat night/early Sun morning. With FSU… who knows. I assume we may know by April 1st. And yes - Emory and others near Atlanta would be silly not to up their game some in terms of film offerings…
Well, we can add Rice to the list of admits… but still no word from FSU MPA. Anyone else hear of others? So far we only know of two BFA admissions for sure… is that still correct?
Congrats on your daughter getting into Rice! Last group to interview is today so there could be more acceptances coming very soon.
Thanks. So all we know is two admitted, and we do not know if they will commit. Well, it should all be made clear over the coming week. Good luck…
Well… there was nothing at the P.O. Box today from USC, so either the expected two-day priority USPS mail was delayed… or bad news. Guess we will know for sure in 15 hours or so when the Admission Portals all update… meanwhile, the angst continues.
@WWWard at least you don’t have to wait until Monday’s mail delivery to find out. Keep the faith in both USC and FSU! Keep us posted!
Thanks. I am still super curious as to when more invitees will be announced by FSU MPA. Hopefully your son and my daughter will be among them…
Me too!!!
As an Update… she is officially in at USC and may already be leaning that way - for a host of reasons. But her admission to SCA specifically was not solidified and remains pending. Basically, she would need to reapply in person there before Sept 1st. But the prospect of SCA, with all its facilities, training, etc, may be hard to turn down… especially when compared to Emory, Rice or UTexas - the other current top prospects.
A full invite into FSU MPA could alter her thinking, but with finalization apparently needed by April 1st, it does not seem likely anymore there.
But until it is final, I guess that hope remains. Good luck to all those still waiting for an answer from FSU…
