Once again, a top national prize has gone to an extraordinary graduate of The Florida State University College of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts -- best known as The Film School.

Nathan Levine-Heaney, 27, has won the 2009 Burton "Bud" Stone Student Heritage Award from the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC).

An alumnus who earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from Florida State in August 2008, Levine-Heaney perpetuates the prolific winning tradition for which The Film School is known by becoming its fourth Heritage Award recipient in 10 years.

"I'm thrilled," said Film School Dean Frank Patterson, recognized in 2008 by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the nation's top mentors to a generation of Hollywood filmmakers. "Nathan is a remarkably smart person who also has a wonderful eye for light and shadow. This young man has a promising career ahead of him."

The ASC (ASC: The American Society of Cinematographers) is the world's oldest and most distinguished honorary society of cinematographers; membership is by invitation only to directors of photography and special effects experts with exceptional film credits. The society bestows the Heritage Award each year to recognize outstanding artistic achievement in student cinematography and encourage the next generation of talented filmmakers to pursue their dreams.
