I have been to 4 MT auditions with my D in as many weeks, and I must say FSU is a class act. First off the communication is good and constant all the way through the process. They only auditioned 240 this year on a first come first serve basis. They allow the students to sing 2 entire songs instead of just 16 or 32 bars along with their monologue. My D even had the acting teacher offer some direction and recite her monologue a 2nd time. No 2 1/2 or 3 minute rush to get to the next person.

The impression they made on the students to have fun and the feeling they gave that they really care about them and the program has made them my D’s first choice if accepted. She has already been notified she is a finalist at 2 other MT BFA programs so a little pressure is off. But we still have 2 weeks and 3 school’s to go.

Thanks, gatorham, for the update! We are going to FSU for our audition in 2 weeks. It’s good to know that the audition is enjoyable. Did your D apply for the BFA or the BM in MT? My D is going for the BM, and they asked her to bring 4 full songs. We were thinking they would probably not have her sing all four songs…

She applied for the BFA Musical Theatre and a BM in Vocal Performance. She came with 4 songs for the BM and they let her sing her choice and then they chose one for her. They did have her do a sight reading test that was a surprise. They have lots of practice rooms and she was able to get in one before each audition and this was a busy day.

S1 and S2 are having an outstanding first year as MTs. They love the program and are getting really great opportunities. They had options among some really great MT programs and chose FSU and are not looking back. Its been a perfect choice for them. I’ve communicated with monkey13 but gatorham, if you have any parent type questions, happy to answer! Spring Awakening will be great! I’ll be down to see it next week!

My daughter will be auditioning there next weekend as well. Glad to hear the good feedback. We have heard great things about FSU. She knows two students in the MT program and they both love it! We will be seeing Spring Awakening as well. One of the students my D knows is playing one of the guy leads. Really excited to see it!

I saw a BFA acting acceptance, but have not seen any MT acceptances yet. But that doesn’t mean they’re not out there! They take so few kids, that it is very possible none of them are on CC or involved with our coaches.

In a way bad to know since it means my D didn’t get a call, but also good to know because she can now move on to ones where she’s been accepted. Thanks.

jeffandann - Yes — I certainly had no idea how hard this would be for the entire family. Are you waiting on others? I think I saw that your D was accepted into some other amazing programs. Plus with all the repeated D/S names on so many schools, I imagine these wait lists will see some movement as well.

Luv: she knows she’s in at Ball State and wait listed at Ohio Northern. Should get some more input this week from several others. It’s been nerve wracking for all to be sure, but knowing she’s in at least one program (which she loves) has helped a great deal.

We have made phone calls to accepted students and letters to all who auditioned were mailed on Friday. I will be happy to talk with anyone who has questions about their audition or other options for attending FSU.

jeffandann,
Yes, I certainly will. Each candidate left the audition with my business card, but if it was misplaced, please email me at mdiamonti@fsu.edu with a phone number where I can reach you and I will call.
