I'm so worried about this. My son has a 30 ACT composite (31 math/31 reading) and a 4.4 weighted GPA plus a bunch of AP and honors classes. He received the $9600 scholarship from FSU and I was confident that he would get an invite to the honors program. Then I saw a post from someone on here that they received a phone call at 7pm on 12/7 from FSU to invite them to the honors program. I have also read that honors invites are MAILED in approximately 2 weeks after acceptance notification. Anyone have any experience with this? Did anyone else get a phone call? If you get the $9600 scholarship, is that a good indication that you will get an invite to honors? So many questions....

We haven’t received notification of honors acceptance yet either. I got the $9600 scholarship also, so am hopeful to be invited to honors program.

The calls seem sporadic and random. NOT EVERYONE GOT A CALL. Perhaps they went to the students with 4.0 and 2300/35’s. There will be a mailing. And there is an appeal process that is easy and many are accepted. Don’t panic.

I, as well as many other people I have spoken to, received an email at around 10 pm last night with notification of acceptance into the honors college.

Have your son check his email, because my daughter received an invitation to join FSU Honors via email yesterday. The message said that an enrollment form was being mailed to her.

Sunnyflorida you are so helpful, not only did I make sure I sent the residency thing yesterday I also signed my kid up for housing. But he had the $9,600 on the acceptance and yes last night got the email for the honors program. So making sure about the residency may have helped greatly. Just curious how many kids are accepted into the honors program and how many are actually in the honors program. This is all new to my son and now is asking the questions. Yes the website gives info, but I want the inside scoop. Again thanks for being so helpful.

My son hasn’t gotten e-mail or phone notification yet either for Honors.

He got the $9600 and has an ACT 30 and FSU GPA of about 4.3-4.4 as well
so I’m certain he’ll get honors, not sure why some were notified and others not.

Not sure what residency has to do with it. They’ve had my info since August.

It sucks that Housing opened six hours earlier than scheduled. That was not really fair.
Numbers were in the hundreds after just ten minutes.
I blame texts, tweaks, facebook, etc…
The admission loophole didn’t allow that last time.

My other kid tried to appeal a few years back (was just shy of score by a point) and had enough to appeal, but was denied. They said there were TOO many qualified applicants.

They use only core courses-Math, English, Social Studies, Science and Language. No PE, art, music, band, architecture, business. They weight .5 for honors/pre-IB and 1.0 for AP/IB/DE. They may use other AP/DE classes that are academic but not core. It is similar to the FACTS.org GPA if you attend a public Florida high school.

The actual notification comes by mail, and last year there were students who did not get an email who still got the mailing. AND THERE ARE REPORTS here on CC of those who appealed and got in, especially those with acceptances during the priority deadline.

I think they opened the priority housing application early because the site often crashed just at/after midnight for a time, so this took some of the load off of the servers. It has been posted here for years to CHECK EARLY because of the back door ways to know you are in.

To be honest, the first 1000 priority numbers for housing are all good numbers. Because some of those students eventually loose their number (didn’t pay deposit or did not sent parental consent if under 17), and others go elsewhere in-state or out of state a number of 1000 means a housing slot of more like 600.

Don’t fret about Honors for now, there is always lateral admission :). On the other hand, don’t listen to me because I am probably one of the only Honors students who won’t pursue the Honors Medallion (simply because it will not fit into my graduation schedule)…the only good thing that has come from being in the program so far is you get first pick for classes lol.

Relax I applied to the honors program, because I had only taken the ACT once (the test location was an hour away) and had received a 28 on it. It was a simple process; so even if your son doesn’t get an invite, he can apply and will most likely get in! I got in with just a 28, but my personal statement was pretty awesome, so that may have been another factor!

If I haven’t gotten anything yet, are they still notifying people? I got the out-of-state waiver scholarship (surprisingly) but I’m not sure what my chances are for honors. My ACT was a 30, if that gives any indication on what my chances could be.

If you don’t get an invite, apply for admission to the honors program! Trust me, it’s awesome to have the ability to pick your classes before everyone else :D
