FSU Honors Program

For those of you in the honors program or looking into it, what are your credentials. (SAT Scores, ACT scores, GPA)
Did you get in by Invitation or Application? Do you like it?
Thanks

Anything? Anyone? All posts are helpful

Have you checked out the web page that FSU has for the honors program?

Of the people I know that have been through the Honors program, some liked it, some didn’t. Most of them loved the early registration for classes, but hated that you had to have a certain number of credits in “Honors” classes or honors sections of classes, which meant taking classes completely unrelated to their major just to meet that requirement.

As someone that wasn’t in Honors but was in a number of undergrad courses that had “honors” sections of just a few students, every single time it was the same: the “Honors” section was a sub-section of the class, but all of the material was identical to the regular section (and in a class like a 300 person Intro to Chemistry class, that’s basically a requirement) aside from often an additional small assignment for Honors students… sometimes it wasn’t even factored into the grade, it was there to differentiate the honors and regular sections.

For the honors-only classes that’s not the case, but a lot of the honors-only classes that I’ve seen didn’t interest me at all (as a non-Honors student).

That isn’t to discourage anyone from Honors. It’s a nice program and a lot of people like it. It’s got a lot of good benefits, but it’s not 100% praised.

As for getting in, you’re going to want around a 2000 SAT/31 ACT and a 4.2 GPA minimum, with a number of AP and Honors level classes on your transcripts.

Hi there,

I was accepted into the Honors program by invitation for Fall 2012. I had a 4.2 GPA, a 28 ACT, and numerous AP classes.

The standards have gotten higher since I was accepted though so I would say, if you have above my scores, you should have a decent chance of getting accepted by invitation.

Pasbal- thanks for the reply. My stats are slightly under those, so I’m not entirely sure I will get in. The info about the classes is very helpful. If I don’t get in be invitation, I will definitely send in an additional application. Thanks!

Danielle, Thanks for the stats. My stats are slightly above yours, but those are very good. If not, I will definitely do the additional application.
Did you accept the invitation, and if so, do you like it?

I did accept. However, after my second semester, I ended up getting dropped from the program when my GPA dropped too low. Don’t slack off like me!!! I regret it SO much now. Getting to register for classes first is what makes honors worth it, in my opinion and losing that chance has caused me a lot of frustration when registration comes around.

It’s tough figuring out the possibility of acceptance because FSU recalculates the GPA. So mine would be on the lower end with a 3.8 or so recalculated, but my SATs are good at 1120. Do I have a shot?

<a href=“FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found”>http://admissions.fsu.edu/freshman/admissions/requirements.cfmh

The academic profile of the middle 50% of freshmen accepted in 2014 was:

3.8-4.3 academic GPA; 26-30 ACT composite; 1760-1960 SAT total

These are the requirements for general admissions not honors…

Danielle, thanks for the advice. The early registration is very nice when so many students go to the school.

Newtown, I think that you have a pretty decent shot at getting accepted to the school, but you might be a little low for honors. IF your other areas are very strong, that could make up.

CollegeInformed, I am at the very high end for the test scores and above the GPA, so I hope that works in my favor. It only gets higher though every year.

I’m a little bit late, but even with lower stats you can get in by invitation. I was invited with a 4.23 weighted GPA and a 2000 SAT. Now I suspect that I may fall lower on the list of honors students, but assuming invitation is based entirely on stats it’s entirely possible to be invited without outrageously high test scores and GPA.

31 ACT 4.23 FSU GPA and I did not get invited because I had only taken 7 ap or honors classes freshman through junior year and my dual enrollment classes did not count. I believe if they require 8 honors or ap classes it should be on the website as a requirement and not some hidden secret. I had to call to get this information. I go to the number one college preparatory high school in my county and 7 ap and honors classes are much more challenging than 8 at a regular public school. I submitted my application a couple weeks ago and am eagerly waiting to hear back. Go Noles!!!

Yeah man I’m sorry to hear about that. I’m sure you will get in though through lateral admission since your ACT is better than my SAT. Good luck.

I was invited into the honors program! I have a 30 ACT, 4.0 unweighted GPA. I’ll also be graduating with 8 dual enrollment credits and 6 AP credits, but I’m not sure how mch that affects it. If I end up going to FSU, I will definitely be in the program.

I’m not too sure if I’ll get in but I am applying since I only applied regular decision. I have a 32 ACT, 3.6/4 GPA (from a competitive high school on long island, not sure what the conversion is for Florida) and about 6 APs. Anyone know my chances?

My son was invited to honors after early action. He is instate, 2310 SAT, 3.9 unweighted. He will graduate with an AA degree from dual enrollment and AP classes. I imagine he’s on the high end. Although he originally wanted to go OOS, we liked the campus when we visited and it’s far enough away from home (Miami) to seem like OOS.

I was invited to FSU Honors with a 4.7 / 3.8 gpa and a 34 on my ACT. I am also doing the Legal Scholars Program which is through the Honors college, and grants automatic admission to law school on an accelerated track. I was rejected from UF. I graduated high school May 2015

I was NOT accepted into the honors program and I had a 3.7 UW gpa, 9 ap classes, and a 31 ACT. I got the 100% out of state tuition waiver and the university freshmen scholarship, but no honors. It’s whatever. My priority number should get me into Dorman or Deviney, so forget Landis!

I was invited to Honors (applied to FSU in second round of admissions if that matters) with 2200 SAT, 3.9uw/4.6w gpa, IB.

I applied to the honors program and was accepted with a 3.94uw/4.35w gpa and a 29 act score.
