So its late March now and I want to apply for housing at Florida State (I've been procrastinating due to the deposit fee and my uncertainty as to where I want to go)... Is there still a chance I can get on-campus housing? I don't care if it is not the building of my choice, I just want it on-campus.

There is a chance. It is getting smaller every day. The deposit is REFUNDABLE up until May 1st, all but about $50. You can register online and send payment by check to give yourself a little room, as you have 10 days from registering to pay. But if you do not pay in 10 days you loose your priority number. I think you can register and then wait until the LAST (tennth) DAY and then go online and still pay.

I would not wait any longer if you want any chance at all.

Yeah… So my priority number is 8011. That idea is done for. I’m just going to assume I won’t get it, then wait to see if I get lucky. Does anyone have any advice about off-campus housing (student apartments), temporary space, or the waiting-list?

Not everyone with a number attends FSU. They only enroll about 5000 freshman, so many of those students will choose to go closer to home or out of state, etc. So you have a shot, but to be honest you definitely need to have a back-up plan. There are private dorms near campus in addition to apartments, and lots of student apartments where you only have to sign a lease for your bedroom and bath and they match you up with others in a 3 or 4 bedroom place… There are LOTS of threads here in the FSU section of CC. Just scroll back.

I called them and they pretty much told me that there’s not much hope, however I’ll try to stay optimistic. I’m going to look into student apartments, however I’m not signing anything until I know for sure. Lucky for me I have a friend who’s in the same boat. I’ll just play it by ear now. Thank you anyways :)

Last year I was in the same boat as you. I was so low on the priority list they told me I wouldn’t get a dorm unless room changes were made during the first weeks of classes, which is obviously to late by then lol. I’d also note that they gave me the choice to get back my whole housing deposit or just wait and see if something opened (if something didn’t it would be the housing deposit less the $50 that they would refund me).

Anywho, to give you some pluses to staying off campus:
The space is DEFINITELY A PLUS. I can honestly say that if I were dorming I wouldn’t have been able to get the grades I did last semester (I find it awfully hard to study in confined spaces). Most places are also around the same you would pay for a year at the nicer dorms (west side I believe). Also, the ability to make/buy your own food is oddly enough a biggggg plus lol.

Thank you My aunt called today and some lady there told her that I’ll get in because freshmen get first priority. I’ve never heard anything like this before, and I don’t think its true. Anyone else hear anything like this?

Freshman do not get first priority because it is done by seniority first. and then priority number for freshman. The upperclassmen have already been notified of what dorms they will be in and what roomates.
