FSU Law Grads No.1 in Passing Florida Bar

Florida State University College of Law graduates had the highest passing rate on this summer's Florida Bar exam. This is the fifth of the past 10 bar exams in which Florida State graduates outranked the other nine law schools in the state.

FSU graduates taking the July 2006 General Bar Examination test for the first time passed by a rate of 88.1 percent, according to statistics released Monday by the Florida Board of Bar Examiners. Florida State's nearest competitor was the University of Miami, which had an 85.7 percent passing rate. The exam was administered July 25-26 in Tampa to 2,410 first-time takers, including 185 from Florida State. The overall passing rate of graduates statewide taking the exam for the first time was 75.1 percent.

"We are all thrilled," said College of Law Dean Don Weidner. "The credit, of course, goes to our May graduates."

Passing rates for other Florida law school graduates were: University of Florida, 81.2 percent; Stetson, 81 percent; Florida International, 79 percent; Florida Coastal, 75.4 percent; Nova Southeastern, 74.9 percent; Barry University of Orlando, 72 percent; St. Thomas, 63.1 percent; Florida A&M, 56.3 percent. Graduates of non-Florida law schools passed at a rate of 71.6 percent. Score results were mailed to candidates on Monday.

The bar exam results came on the heels of the news last week that the tax law faculty at Florida State is one of the nation's 15 most downloaded tax faculty on the Social Science Research Network. No other Florida law school is in the Top 15.

FSU Law should be commended for leading the state. Year in and year out they always seem to be on top.

I find it interesting that FIU (which is only around 4 years old) is already beating out most of the the older and more established private schools. Within the next 10 years they could potentially start taking students away from the Big 3.

Yes! I Can't Wait To Go Up There And Meet My Fellow Seminoles! I Wonder How Nice/helpful (like A Mentor) The Fsu Law Students Will Be To The Undergrad.

DON'T confuse the bar passing rate with quality. Some law schools are giant bar preparation courses and not that good otherwise. I should note that I am not implying that FSU law school is of poor quality in any way.

I remember when I lived in NY that New York Law School had the highest bar passing rate in the state; however, no one would seriously argue that New York Law School was better than NYU or Columbia or Cornell.

"DON'T confuse the bar passing rate with quality. Some law schools are giant bar preparation courses and not that good otherwise."

I bet it really upsets you that FSU Law is ranked 12 spots higher than your alma mater's law school. Your passive aggressive shot at FSU is weak at best.

yea,[tax guy} as a future lawyer (NY) passing the bar is just as important to me as the institution i'm in, I will personally make connections I don't need a prestige school to do it for me, and if i end up attending a "bar review" Lawschool then praise te lord, the last thing I'll want is to sit in a room for two days for about 8hrs. lol, so don't be hattin, lol is that how you write? hattin, you know hating but like in a "gangster" way. you know "i got my hatters blockers on", hattin, lol. ya;ll know what I mean
