FSU leaving ACC for SEC?

What's with all the noise about FSU joining SEC? President Barron, the president of the Board of Trustees, and the football team's Coach Fisher all say they don't know anything about it. Are the Boosters negotiating something? The media says something is going on, but everyone at FSU denies knowledge of negotiations. What's really going on?

Who knows. There are pluses (more money, a conference with more football “prestige”) and minuses (ACC has better basketball, is more academically oriented.) FSU would be top of the ACC and more like upper middle third or lower top third of SEC.

I don’t think the money is worth it. And if you read Warchant and the Seminole boards, they are having intelligent discussions. If you read some of the Gator boards, they are spewing hatred and say UF will block any invitation to FSU. Wow. Some of the postings are just, well, WOW.

It is clear FSU will not approach the SEC or ask. They will not be like A&M who is begging to be invited in. FSU might go if the SEC comes begging.

There is NOTHING official on the table.

[Bobby Bowden Florida State SEC: Bobby Bowden weighs in on the Florida State-to-SEC rumors - South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com](http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/os-bobby-bowden-florida-state-sec-20110814,0,3123982.story)
Here is what Bobby has to say…

Such a move would be an academic negative. I doubt it happens.

That would have made an amazing addition for football season.

The SEC turned up their noses at A&M. Again. They apparently said no as Florida did not then want the SEC to add FSU and USC did not want to add Clemson as possible 14th teams. UGa does not want GT, UK does not want Louisville, WVU is geographically far and does not have a huge TV market and has a big problem with academics. And Missouri is saying they are not interested in the SEC.

They left open the possibility in the future that they might still “invite” A&M. What a snub. FSU should steer clear. Besides, the SEC is running scared. They are afraid that if FSU is in the SEC, there would be far more HS students who would then consider FSU over UF.

I follow college football with a passion. I have 3 degrees from an
“elite” school in the B1G and could not have been more pleased by
the B1G offering the University of Nebraska a seat at our B1G table.

What you have going on now is the implosion destruction of the former
B12 conference. The University of Texas is a big deal-- they are! However,
they always want their own way-- money talks $$'s. With the startup
of Bevo Network they have ****ed off pretty much all the schools left
in the old B12 conference-- specifically Texas A & M is bolting for the
SEC-- likely announced this Monday unless UT buys them off. Regardless,
of a buy off- the B12 will only last until Bevo Network is up and running.
For the non Texas reader, BEVO is UT’s longhorn mascot.

FSU has been suggested as the 2nd new SEC team to balance Texas A & M’s
inclusion into the SEC-- you really need equal divisions East and West to the
SEC.

I don’t believe FSU is interested. As parent2noles points out academics is a
high FSU priority. The SEC is an academic bottom feeder with the obvious
exception of the University of Florida. Athletically, FSU can compete for
national championships just fine from the ACC. Also, if you look at athletic
budgets FSU would be just middle most in the SEC-- not a good position
dollars-wise in support of athletics.

Finally, I am being told that a group of at least 4 SEC Presidents are prepared
to block FSU should they wish membership in the SEC.

FSU should stay put in the ACC-- it’s a solid conference and they will pick up
new members should they lose a couple (Clemson to SEC and Maryland to the
B1G) in the weeks ahead.

Again, just my .02

David

Latest-- Big piddling match happening. SEC needs TAMU to apply.
Threats of suits for millions against SEC for raiding the B12. The
expansion world goes on a little “hold” while UT, B12, ESPN, TAMU
plus some behind the scenes players sort it all out.

FSU stay where you are-- ACC !!

Just my .02

David

ACC should be more than fine for FSU.
