I'm rather new to posting on these boards so please excuse me if I've posted this to the wrong forum.

Last week was February vacation for my son. He's a HS Junior so we decided to take a college tour trip. We made a number of stops but he was absolutely captivated with FSU. Their music programs are very highly regarded, the campus was very inviting, and EVERYONE we spoke with could not have been more pleasant. At this point FSU is undoubtedly his first choice.

As mentioned, my son is a HS Jr right now. Weighted GPA of 4.1, tons of extra curricular activities. Did well on the PSAT's but has yet to take the SAT or ACT. Planning to take the SAT's in May and June and the ACT's in April and June. He has studied private voice since he was 8yo. Has made the all-state choir every year, is a member of our church choir and the schools chamber choir as well. If he's not in his room studying he's generally off at a rehearsal for yet another show at a local community theater. In short, for his age, he has a very nicely toned classically trained voice and has been told he has a great stage presence.

I guess the questions I have are the general ones and may have been answered in other threads if I look hard enough...

I've heard that the Theater track only accepts around 10% of applicants and the music track around 40%. Anyone know if it reflects poorly on him if he applies for both? He's torn as to the direction right now. Looking at the course maps the vocal performance track looks more appealing but he loves theater. Anyone have any input?

Would it be possible to major in vocal performance and minor in dance? Perhaps that would get him the best of both worlds? He's strong vocally and a talented actor. Out of the three he is weakest in Dance. He's done a lot of dance shows at this point so he's gotten a lot better at stage movement, but he's no trained dancer.

If I were to look for some dance lessons for him between now and auditions next Feb, what would I be looking for?

I have read that out of state students accepted to the music program receive a tuition discount. I was wondering how available additional merit money was at the university or at the college of music?

Any suggestions others may have for helping to increasing his chance of acceptance and perhaps some merit scholarship would be greatly appreciated. The school would be a great fit for my son. He's also a great kid and puts his all into everything he does so I'm sure he'd be a productive student as well.

Thanks in advance for any input...
