FSU OOS Scholarships??

Hi, I submitted an application for FSU and I am waiting for a decision on December 8th. I was wondering what my chances are of getting an OOS waiver scholarship. I live in Tennessee and attend an academic high school. Every class I have taken is honors and a few dual-enrollments. My UW GPA is 3.17 and FSU GPA is around a 3.6. My Act is a 24 Superscored. I am an Eagle Scout and 110+hours of community service. I applied for summer B program. Do I have a chance of being awarded one of their OOS Scholarships. I tried researching them and I didn’t see any criteria. They said they pick them out during admission.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look very promising. Last year’s overall admitted freshman had an average GPA of 3.9 to 4.4 and an ACT of 26 to 30. OOS tuition waivers are more competitive and you should expect to need higher stats than that. You should call admissions and ask them specifically what last year’s stats were for those receiving the OOS waiver.

@physicsfreak Okay Thank you. I am not too worried because the OOS tuition is fairly reasonable still.

I called. They don’t know how they’re going to do it based on the rSAT. My older son got an OOS waiver. His SAT was 2150. It seems like the top 10% or so is the likely cut off. In any case they advised they would know in December, when the early actions come out. You can check then, and if you don’t meet the number, they will allow you to retake the test to see if you make the cut off at that point. I’m waiting to see for my younger son. They treat OOS students really well.

I can say my son got in. His WGPA was 4.0 and his rSAT was 1130, but he did not get the OOS tuition waiver. I don’t know yet what the cutoff is. Frankly, my older son likes it so much, the scholarship is not relevant to me.

@Newtownunit Congrats on your sons acceptance!!! I got accepted too today

Oops… His rSAT was 1330, and still didn’t get waiver, but thrilled he got accepted.

@Newtownunit I can’t believe he didn’t get the waiver. Is he still attending FSU though?

He’s still waiting to hear from Penn State. I’d love to see him go there. His brother is a sophomore at FSU.

@Newtownunit Did he even get a partial waiver? Scores are really high so that’s weird he didn’t. I applied beginning of December so I’m gonna be waiting for a bit on mine, hoping my “late” application won’t decrease my chances too much for the waiver…

Are the waivers first come first serve? I got one, but am not ready to choose FSU as I’d like to see how my other schools play out. But, I don’t want to wait to accept and then lose it.

@mkat12 I believe you can accept a scholarship without any penalty if you decide not to enroll. I’d suggest accepting because they only give out so many

@Newtownunit - did you ever hear back from Admissions on what the required test scores were in order to get the OOS full or partial waiver for this year? Curious to see how it compares to the 29 ACT for partial or 30+ ACT for full from last year.

Haven’t heard back yet. But when I took a look at the median for this incoming class, it was extremely impressive. The median rSAT was between about 1300-1400, so I’m not thinking my son’s 1350 is close enough. Really doesn’t matter to us. FSU and PSU are similar in cost. He also got into U of South Carolina, but they’re offering him an academic scholarship that brings it to the same cost as well. So, it’s his choice. Love to see him at FSU with his brother, but he has to make his own decision.

@Newtownunit @FloridaBound16 Spoke to admissions today. Said cutoff for SATS for full was 1390, half 1350. ACT cutoff 30 full 29 half.
I have a 1350 on my SAT and I just took my ACT for the first time, really hoping for a 30 now.

My son has a 1330 on the SAT, and they also mentioned you had to have at least a 3.5 FSU Weighted GPA, which he exceeds. Trying to convince him to take the test again! We’ll see.
